Introduction
In this course, students will integrate knowledge from previous theoretical courses by applying it in practice. The students will familiarise themselves with the framework for service provision and ensure user participation.The students are expected to actively participate in the planning, implementation and evaluation of care, training and change work. This is a full-time course over nine weeks.
Required preliminary courses
A pass in the following courses: VERN1400/VERND1400 and VEPRA10/VEPRAD10/
Approved required coursework in: VERN2110/VERND2110 and VERN2400/VERND2400
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student is expected to have achieved the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and competence:
Knowledge
The student has knowledge of:
- the practical training establishment’s professional basis and how the establishment describes the purpose of its activities
- how the practical training establishment cooperates with other relevant services
- how the practical training establishment safeguards the service recipients’ right to user participation and protection of privacy
- the establishment’s reporting and patient record system
Skills
The student:
- demonstrates an ability to cooperate and communicate with patients, pupils, users, next of kin and partners in different arenas
- is capable of using the social educator work model for work with different target groups
- is capable of identifying ethical dilemmas and conflicts of values relating to the service provision
- is capable of using expedient mapping measures and justifying them
- is capable of explaining a satisfactory planning and goal setting process based on the service recipient's wishes and self-determination
- is capable of using evidence-based methods in care and training measures
- is capable of analysing and assessing the effects and usefulness of the measure
Competence
The student:
- is capable of demonstrating the expected professional skills in accordance with the applicable suitability criteria
- understands people with varied needs of assistance and is capable of implementing measures that promote people’s coping and quality of life
- has knowledge of the acts and regulations that regulate services for users/patients/pupils
- is capable of cooperating and communicating with different users and experts/groups of experts
- is capable of presenting and discussing relevant issues, challenges and ethical dilemmas in the professional practice of social educators
- is capable of planning, implementing and discussing care, training and facilitation work based on the social educator work model
Teaching and learning methods
The practical training requires active participation in work at the training establishment to ensure the optimal overall learning outcome.
Course requirements
The following required coursework must be approved before a student can receive a final assessment:
- participation in work at the practical training establishment (minimum attendance of 90%)
- participation in teaching and seminars before and during practical training
- submission of practical training documents
- assessed and found suited for the profession according to suitability criteria
If a period of practical training is assessed as 'fail', the following coursework must be reworked:
- participation at the practical training establishment (minimum attendance of 90%)
- submission of practical training documents
- assessed and found suited for the profession according to suitability criteria
Assessment
Individual portfolio exam
Portfolio requirements: Part 101 Assessment of practical training Part 102 Written assignment relating to the practical training, maximum length: 2000 words. A pass is required in part 101 to be able receive an assessment of part 102.
Resit/rescheduled exam: Part 101 Assessment of practical training: Students who fail a period of practical training must retake the whole training period. Part 102 Written assignment relating to the practical training: If a period of practical training is assessed as 'fail', a reworked version of the assignment must be submitted.
