Introduction
Admission to the programme.
In addition must practical procedure test at the simulation and skills centre, from course SYBA1020 be approved before the students can go into clinical training.
Required preliminary courses
After completing the course, the student is expected to have achieved the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and competence:
Knowledge
The students:
- can describe relevant examples of how diseases and the patient’s surroundings can influence their basic needs and resources
- have insight into the main content of laws and regulations regulating drug administration, can explain the basic principles of drug administration and can administer drugs under supervision
- can explain important prerequisites for ethical and dignified elderly care, such as professional practice, consent, confidentiality and power relations in care, and describe examples related to the field of practice
- can describe the ward’s routines regarding end of life care, and explain the main principles of the end of life care needs of dying patients and their next-of-kin
- can describe relevant examples of the importance of aesthetics in nursing
- can explain what evidence-based practice is
Skills
The students can:
- understand the patient’s situation by applying knowledge of basic human needs and resources, and how humans respond to normal aging
- identify the patient’s needs for nursing and their resources using the clinical assessment process
- plan and carry out nursing actions to support the patient's basic needs and resources, under supervision, in such a way as to protect the patient's safety and dignity
- apply basic ethical principles to identify and reflect on ethical dilemmas in the ward
- document nursing in the ward's documentation systems in line with current guidelines
- apply knowledge of basic communication with patients, next-of-kin and employees
- perform basic medication management in accordance with applicable laws and regulations
Competence
The students can:
- take initiative and show responsibility in the planning and implementation of their own practice and in their work with patients and co-workers
- reflect on their own professional practice and take the initiative to seek out and obtain guidance
- show responsible attitudes in accordance with ethical guidelines for nurses
- show accuracy and reliability during their practice period
- initiate and actively participate in the exchange of professional views and experience with fellow students and nurses in the field of practice
Learning outcomes
Clinical training, lectures, group work, written assignments, logs, supervision and self-study.
Students will receive approx. a week of preparatory theoretical teaching before embarking on eight weeks' clinical training with direct patient contact.

Teaching and learning methods
All clinical training have different compulsory activities and tasks in the implementation. See chapter on Clinical training.
Course requirements
The assessments are based on the learning outcomes for the course, the student's specification of the learning outcomes and the formative assessment made of the student during the clinical training period.
Students' clinical training can only be assessed if their attendance is sufficiently high.
- Less than 10% absence: The student can complete the clinical training course as normal.
- 10-20% absence: If possible, the student can make up for the clinical training missed. This must be agreed with the clinical training supervisor and the supervisor at the university.
- More than 20% absence: The student must retake the whole clinical training course.
Students are responsible for obtaining a copy of their assessment form from the supervisor. The form must be presented to the new supervisor in the next clinical training period.

Not relevant.
Permitted exam materials and equipment
Pass/fail.
Grading scale
A representative of the clinical training establishment and representative of the university. The final decision on whether to award a pass or fail grade is made by the university.
