Introduction
After completing the course, the student is expected to have achieved the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and competence:
Knowledge
The student
- knows what user-centred development entails
- has knowledge of individual differences between people
- has knowledge of what characterises user-friendliness
- is familiar with design principles
- can explain the specific terminology used in the field
- has knowledge of research on user interfaces, including theories, empirical data and hypothesis testing
Skills
The student is capable of
- performing needs analyses
- communicating design ideas with the help of sketches
- developing low-resolution prototypes, including organising information visually
- performing user tests
- measuring the user interfaces by designing simple experiments and applying statistical tools
General competence
The student
- is capable of developing user-friendly user interfaces
- is familiar with techniques used to evaluate interactive systems
- is capable of documenting and explaining design choices to clients and users
- is capable of interpreting simple research literature dealing with human-machine interaction

Knowledge
The student
- has a basic technical understanding of the functioning of Internet and computer networks
- has an overview of the most important principles in pervasive computing, and the Internet of Things, which include wearable devices, context aware computing, health monitoring, smart houses, crowd sensing, smart grids and ambient intelligence
- understands the basic technical principles behind different algorithms for autonomous control in the Internet of Things
- has an understanding of how the Internet of Things and pervasive computing affect security and the protection of privacy in our society
- has good knowledge of the scientific advances and technology leaps that enabled the Internet of Things
Skills
The student
- masters basic concepts and has an overview of algorithms used on the internet and in data communication
- is capable of conceptualising architecture for solutions based on the Internet of Things and pervasive computing
General competence
The student
- is capable of designing solutions based on the principles behind the Internet of Things and pervasive computing

Learning outcomes
Lectures and supervisory sessions.

Teaching and learning methods
Supervision sessions with an internal and/or external supervisor. The students will work in groups of three to five students on a project, which is part of a research project at OsloMet or another institution, in cooperation with the research project’s participants and the relevant research group.
The course can be carried out individually by agreement with the course coordinator.
The projects are chosen/assigned at the start of the semester.

Assessment
Written project report (100% of the final grade).
A written project report delivered at the of the semester, individual or in groups (max 5 students), 4000 words +/-10 %.
For group projects, all members of the group receive the same grade. Under exceptional circumstances, individual grades can be assigned at the discretion of the project supervisor(s) and Head of Studies.
The exam result can be appealed.

Grading scale
Two internal examiners. External examiners are used regularly.

Individuell skriftlig eksamen under tilsyn på 3 timer.
Eksamensresultat kan påklages.
Ved ny og utsatt eksamen kan en annen eksamensform også bli benyttet eller en ny oppgave med en ny frist gis. Hvis muntlig eksamen benyttes kan denne ikke påklages.
