  • Introduction

    Admission to the programme.

  • Required preliminary courses

    After completing the course, the student is expected to have achieved the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and competence:

    Knowledge

    The student

    • is capable of describing the historical development and social mandate of nursing and the discipline’s development from work to profession
    • is capable of describing the human being’s fundamental needs and resources
    • is capable of describing factors that can influence a patient's ability to self-care
    • is capable of describing the human being’s psychological development and needs
    • is capable of describing stepsin evidence-based practice (EBP) and explain the contents and what makes up assessment, action and decision-making processes in nursing
    • is capable of describing the main elements of care ethics and why attitudes and values have a central place in nursing
    • is capable of describing the main elements of care ethics and why attitudes and values have a central place in nursing

    Skills

    The student

    • is capable of reflecting on ethical difficulty situations by applying the SME model (Centre for medical ethics, UiO)
    • has basic communication skills
    • can participate actively in group cooperation and receive supervision and reflecting on his/her own role
    • masters the principles of academic writing
    • can perform and justify relevant procedures related to the care of basic physiological needs, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation with the use of a defibrillator

    Competence

    The student is capable of

    • exchanging views on the foundations of nursing
    • reflecting on the significance of own efforts in study groups and reflecting on challenges when group processes are used as learning methods
  • Learning outcomes

    Self-study, lectures, digital learning resources, group work, seminars with presentations and practical training: simulation and skills training (two weeks) and Inspirational practical training (one week).

    The flipped classroom is used as a teaching method for part of the course. Digital learning resources will be made available in advance.

  • Teaching and learning methods

    The following must have been completed and approved in order for a student to take the exam:

    • individual assignment, scope of 1,500 words (+/- 10%)
    • participation in seminars, compulsory attendance of 80% 
    • participation om SF-unit, two weeks, compulsory attendance of 90 %

  • Course requirements

    Home exam in groups

    • Carried out in groups of 3-5 students.
    • Three days
    • Scope: 2,500 words (+/- 10 %).
    • Individual description of own contribution to the group is attached to the assignment, 350 words (+/- 10%)

  • Assessment

    Combined assessment.

    Part 1 Assessment of practical training.

    The assessment takes its point of departure in given criteria based on learning outcomes for the course, criteria for failing the practical training, criteria for suitability assessment and compulsory activities carried throughout the entire course. During the practical training period, a minimum of 90 percent attendance is required to pass the practical training. For more information, see the general part of the programme description about the assessment of practical training.

    If the student has failed the practical training, the whole practical training course must be retaken. This includes associated requirements. Part 1 and part 2 appear on the diploma.

    Part 2 Individual home examination.

    • Three days.
    • Scope: 2,500 words (+/- 10 %).

    Part 1 and part 2 can be taken independently of each other. The student must have obtained a pass on both parts in order to pass the course as a whole and earn the credits. . Part 1 and part 2 appear on the diploma.

  • Permitted exam materials and equipment

    Pass/fail.

  • Grading scale

    Two examiners will assess the exams. At least 10% of the exam papers will be assessed by an external examiner. The external examiner’s assessment shall benefit all students.

  • Examiners

    SYKK1000 and SYKP1000 overlap 100 %.

  • Overlapping courses

    SYKKPRA60x, SYKPRA60x and SYKDPRA60 are fully overlapping.
