Introduction
I det valgfrie emnet MJ4800 Vitenskapelig assistent tilknyttes studenten et forskningsprosjekt ledet av en vitenskapelig ansatt ved institutt for journalistikk og mediefag, og deltar i gjennomføringen av dette. Deltagelsen skal munne ut i en relevant faglig produksjon. Emnet kan kun tas én gang.

Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student is expected to have achieved the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills, and general competence:
Knowledge
The student
- can describe the patients’ subjective experiences of disease and suffering and the importance of hope amidst serious illness
- can describe an account of nursing care for medical or surgical treatment
- can describe the phenomena pain, treatment of pain and pain relief
Skills
The student
- can systematically map and assess the patient's resources and problems, formulate goals, implement measures, and evaluate (the nursing process)
- can explain and perform person-centered nursing related to the current patient situation
- can use current clinical mapping and communication tools and be able to justify measures in the practice of nursing
- can document in clinical documentation systems using standardised terminology
- can carry out and assessing relevant nursing procedures
- can apply relevant medical technology in the practical performance of nursing
- can recognise stress and crisis situations in the event of loss and disease and adapting communication based on this
- can communicate with patients and next-of-kin adapted to the level of development/cognitive function and the condition
- can implement measures in the event of sub-acute and acute incidents as well as performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation with a defibrillator (CPR)
- can identify and reflect on ethically charged and challenging situations in clinical practice
General competence
The student
- can integrate knowledge from pathophysiology and pharmacology in the performance of nursing
- can reflect on responsible drug administration at an individual and systematic level
- can demonstrate responsibility, engagement, independence and can follow professional ethical guidelines

- can reflect on how culture and a cultural understanding can be important in the practice of nursing

On successful completion of the course, the student has acquired the following learning outcomes classified as knowledge, skills, and general competence:
Knowledge
The student
- can explain person-centered nursing for children and adults
- can describe normal development from childhood to adulthood
- can describe depression, anxiety (possibly mental illness), and substance abuse problems as possible part of a patient's reaction to illness
- can describe the care perspective related to hope and coping
- can give an account of nursing care for acute, critical and chronic illness and the consequences for person-centred nursing care
- can define what Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) is and understand the rationale behind EBP and shared decision-making
- have knowledge of scientific theory and research methodology.
- can describe various types of studies and characteristics of different issues and scientific articles, and explain how knowledge is placed in the knowledge pyramid
- can describe the terms informed consent and consent competence, and their importance in the health service
Skills
The student can
- apply knowledge of person-centered nursing to discussions about disease, mental health, and substance abuse issues
- prevent and resolve value conflicts/conflicts of interest in meetings with patients, relatives and other cooperating parties
- describe methods for collecting and analysing quantitative and qualitative data
- develop a relevant search strategy for a nursing professional/clinical question and conduct the search for summarised knowledge (from the top of the knowledge pyramid)
- critically evaluate health claims in the media and analyse and interpret the processes by which information and misinformation are distinguished, disseminated, and used in various contexts
General competence
The student can
- reflect on how person-centered nursing, as a working process, can contribute to caring for patients with disease, mental health, and substance abuse issues
- can describe research ethical aspects in all phases of research projects

Permitted exam materials and equipment
Emnets viktigste innhold er den pedagogiske interaksjonen mellom stabens vitenskapelige personale og studenten. Studenten gjennomfører et nærmere avtalt vitenskapelige arbeid under veiledning av en vitenskapelig tilsatt. Gjennom empiriske undersøkelser og teoretisk refleksjon skal studenten tilegne seg den innsikt og de ferdigheter som skal til for å gjennomføre et arbeid som holder god vitenskapelig standard. Kurset skal både gi praktiske ferdigheter som er til hjelp for studenten under det senere arbeidet med masteroppgaven, og bidra med teoretisk og praktisk kompetanse som er til nytte for pågående forskning i fagmiljøet ved Institutt for journalistikk og mediefag.

Arbeidskrav
- Studenten skal lage en poster som gir en oversikt over forskning innenfor et tema som er relevant for barnehagefeltet. Posteren skal utarbeides innenfor et oppgitt format, presenteres og gjøres digitalt tilgjengelig for alle studentene. Studentene skal gi tilbakemelding på minst én presentasjon. Omfang: Én poster og en 10-15-minutters presentasjon. Arbeidet kan gjennomføres individuelt eller i gruppe.
- Planlegge og gjennomføre et møte med en forsker/forskergruppe ved OsloMet. Møtet skal handle om metode eller metodologi (omfang min. 45 minutter) og gjennomføres i gruppe.
Krav om 70 prosent tilstedeværelse i undervisningen
Det er krav om 70 % tilstedeværelse på alle deler av samlingene.
