Course history

Introduction

Normally taught in English. Taught in Norwegian if no English-speaking students are taking the course.

In this course, you will be able to specialise in two key topics: the importance of good parent–child relationships for life-long health and different challenges related to puberty. The objective is to promote health through good relationships, and increase knowledge about puberty and mental health. Screen use in a relational context will also be a main element of the course.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the student should have the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence:

Knowledge

  • can describe key topics related to the importance of good parent–child relationships and life-long health

  • can describe the complexities of puberty and mental health and illness, with a particular focus on individual and group approaches

  • can describe challenges related to screen use in a relational context

  • can describe how it is possible to update your own skills in a chosen subject area and how to contribute to developing professional practice

Skills The student

  • can reflect on current procedures and methods, and take the initiative to engage in dialogue about the implementation of new knowledge and new work methods

 

Competence The student

  • can reflect on nursing issues within a chosen subject area

Teaching and learning methods

Lectures, group assignments and self-study.

Assessment

Group home exam

  • In groups of up to seven students.

  • The exam period extends throughout the course.

  • Scope of 1,500 words (+/- 10%).

 

Resit exam: A student who fails the ordinary exam can submit a reworked version once as a resit.

The assignment can be given in English or Scandinavian language. The individual group must deliver in the same language.

Permitted exam materials and equipment

All aids are permitted, as long as the rules for source referencing are complied with.

Grading scale

Pass/fail. One overall grade is awarded for the whole group.

Examiners

One external and one internal examiner will assess at least 10% of the exam papers. The remaining papers will be assessed by two internal examiners. The external examiner’s assessment should benefit all the students.

The course overlaps 100% with SYK2800A and SYK2800B.
