Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the student is expected to have achieved the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and competence:

Knowledge: The student has knowledge of

  • the research process
  • project work as a method
  • the demographic and epidemiological basis for health-promoting and preventive work at the individual and society levels, with particular focus on healthy, vulnerable groups, children, young people and families
  • public health and the factors that influence it
  • methods in health promotive and preventive work
  • group processes and communication
  • conflict management

Skills: The student is capable of

  • finding and assessing relevant information and specialist literature and presenting it in written assignments in a manner that elucidates an issue of relevance to health promotive and preventive work
  • planning and conducting a project, under supervision, in preventive health work based on research-based knowledge and initiating professional development
  • applying relevant results from research and development work to innovation processes

Competence: The student is capable of

  • identifying issues related to health promotive and preventive work
  • disseminating project results in writing

Teaching and learning methods

The main topic in this course is the design, evaluation, and testing of new and emerging user interfaces in technologies such as augmented, virtual and mixed reality; artificial intelligence user agents; brain-computer interfaces; and autonomous vehicle - among others. This is developed in accordance with principles for universal accessibility and acquired through many practical exercises coupled with lectures presenting theories relevant to the field. The course will also provide both theoretical principles of universal design and hands-on experience on how to design and evaluate ICT systems using these principles.

This course supports OsloMet's ambition to drive progress on the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Course requirements

One half year of university studies (30 ECTS), in addition to the international summer school’s general requirements. The requirement has to be met by application deadline.

After completing this course the student should have the following learning outcome:

Knowledge

On successful completion of this course the student has knowledge of:

  • Norwegian and international legislation regarding the inclusion of all groups of users in society
  • various physical and cognitive disabilities and design universally accessible solutions for ICT in cooperation with users
  • techniques for ensuring access to ICT for everyone

Skills

On successful completion of this course the student has:

  • demonstrated ability to identify barriers to usability
  • shown proficiency at evaluating the universal design of existing processes and technology
  • demonstrated ability to develop universally designed systems
  • shown proficiency at applying universal design principles in practice
  • experienced developing state-of-the-art universally designed ICT solutions
  • the ability to critique design processes from a universal design perspective

General Competence On successful completion of this course the student can apply:

  • universal design principles in testing and evaluating ICT
  • universal design policies in practice
  • universal design practices to ensure access to ICT for everyone

Permitted exam materials and equipment

Emnet har hovedfokus på individuell veiledning og coaching. Det legges vekt på utvikling av faglige og personlige ferdigheter som veileder og coach. Studentene forventes å praktisere i rollen som veileder og coach og reflektere over egen utvikling i denne sammenhengen.
