Introduction
This course teaches students about patients and next-of-kin in an acute, critical and chronic context, and what the nurse’s areas of responsibility entail. Students will learn to communicate with patients and next-of-kin in situations of stress and crisis. Systematic mapping and assessment, nursing of somatic diseases, pre and postoperative nursing and competent drug administration are also part of the course. You will complete 8 weeks of practical training in this course.

- SYKK/SYKP1110 Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry, 15 credits.

Knowledge
The student can
- explain the concept of person-centered nursing for children and adults
- describe normal development from childhood to adulthood
- explain the interaction between physical and mental health across different stages of life
- describe depression, anxiety (mental illness), and substance abuse as possible part of a patient's reaction to illness
- describe the care perspective related to hope and coping
- define what Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) is and understand the rationale behind EBP and shared decision-making
- explain the relationship between scientific theory and research methodology.
- describe various types of studies and characteristics of different issues and scientific articles, and explain how knowledge is placed in the knowledge pyramid
Skills
The student can
- apply knowledge of person-centered nursing to discussions about disease, mental health, and substance abuse issues
- describe methods for collecting and analysing quantitative and qualitative data, including various categorical and continuous measures of association and effect
- develop a relevant search strategy using PICO for a professional/clinical question related to disease, mental health, and substance abuse, and conduct the search for summarised research (from the top of the knowledge pyramid)
- critically evaluate health claims in the media and analyse and interpret the processes by which information and misinformation are distinguished, disseminated, and used in various contexts
General competence
The student can
- reflect on how person-centered nursing, as a working process, can contribute to caring for patients with disease, mental health, and substance abuse issues
- assess research ethical aspects especially related to patients with disease, mental health problems, and substance abuse issues

Studenten
- har avansert kunnskap om sentrale begreper og analyseredskaper i tekstanalyse
- har innsikt i journalistikkforskning der tekstanalyse, sjangerteori, diskursanalyse og språkanalyse har en sentral plass
- har kunnskap om journalistspråket innen ulike medieplattformer som radio, avis (nett og papir), TV, nett og sosiale medier og kjennskap til kommunikasjonsmodeller og språkmodeller som kan forklare utviklingen av journalistspråket
Ferdigheter
Studenten
- kan analysere journalistiske tekster metodisk og kritisk
- kan anvende tekst- og diskursanalytiske teorier og metoder i egen forskning
- kan reflektere kritisk over journalistspråket i en historisk kontekst
- kan analysere både verbalspråk og billedspråk i journalistikk

Alle hjelpemidler tillatt.
Permitted exam materials and equipment
Individuell firedagers hjemmeeksamen. Besvarelsene skal være 8-10 sider. Skrifttype Arial eller Calibri, størrelse 12pkt, linjeavstand: 1,5.
Grading scale
The contact lecturer approves the grade after recommendation from the practical training supervisor. The final decision on whether to award a pass or fail grade is made by the university.
Examiners
Det benyttes intern og ekstern sensor til sensurering av besvarelsene. Et uttrekk på minst 25 % av besvarelsene sensureres av to sensorer. Karakterene på disse samsensurerte besvarelsene skal danne grunnlag for å fastsette nivå på resten av besvarelsene.
