SKOMP1100 Administration of Medicine Course description

This course introduces students to basic drug administration and drug calculation. They will learn about the connection between drug administration and patient safety and about the accuracy requirements that apply to working with drugs. The theme will be continued in the second and third years of study.

Følgende arbeidskrav må være godkjent for å fremstille seg til eksamen:

• minimum 80 % tilstedeværelse på samlinger
• skriftlig prosjektskisse, inntil 1000 ord (godkjennes av veileder)

After completing the course, the student is expected to have achieved the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills, and general competence:

Knowledge

The student

• can describe an account of key terms in drug handling
• can describe the procedure for handling drugs from the drug is prescribed until taken it or it has been disposed of
• describe generic drug substitution and applying the Norwegian Medicines Agency's substitution list or local substitution list
• referring to relevant legislation and regulations for the use of drugs, including regulation for documentation, handling of non-conformities and disposal

Skills

The student

• can carry out independent and faultless calculations of drug dosages, quantities and strengths using different methods of administration
• can assess and checking their own and other people’s calculations
• can usiereference works such as Felleskatalogen and Legemiddelhåndboka

General competence

The student

• has knowledge of and understanding of the connection between proper drug handling and patient safety

Gradert skala A-F, der A er beste og E dårligste karakter for bestått. F er ikke bestått.

Alle besvarelser vurderes av to sensorer. Ekstern sensor benyttes regelmessig, og minimum ved hver tredje gjennomføring av emnet. Ved uttrekk av besvarelser til ekstern sensur skal uttrekket omfatte minimum 10 prosent av besvarelsene, men uansett ikke færre enn 5 besvarelser. Ved uttrekk skal ekstern sensors vurdering komme alle studentene til gode.
