Course history

Introduction

Language of instruction: Norwegian

This practical training course builds on knowledge and skills that the students have acquired during previous periods of practical training. The students are to develop their CT, MRI and conventional radiography skills, and a high degree of independence is expected. Students may also undergo practical training in one or more of the following areas: interventional radiography, paediatric radiography, nuclear medicine and mammography.

Most of the institutions that make up the external practical training arenas for this programme are located in Oslo and Eastern Norway. The students must therefore expect to commute during one or more of their periods of practical training. Students are assigned to diagnostic imaging and radiotherapy units. It is emphasised that the students should become familiar with the profession early on and that they will have practical training in all three years of the programme.

Students must comply with the clothing regulations in force at the practical training establishment. Special requirements for tests or vaccination may apply at individual establishments.

Required preliminary courses

Passed first and second year of the programme or equivalent

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the student should have the following learning outcomes defined in terms of skills and general competence:

Skills

The student can

  • assess how normal anatomy and common pathologies are shown in relevant diagnostic imaging examinations
  • plan, prepare and carry out simple CT and MRI examinations and take part in other diagnostic imaging examinations and treatments
  • plan and independently carry out a day programme of chest and skeletal examinations
  • assess image quality requirements related to the indications for X-ray, CT and MRI examinations
  • obtain and communicate the information needed to safeguard a patient when administering medication and contrast agents independently

General competence

The student can

  • apply and reflect on the department's patient safety procedures
  • apply hygiene guidelines and sterile procedures to prevent the spread of infection on an independent basis
  • discuss image criteria and assess image quality
  • apply and practise the code of ethics for radiographers and reflect on ethical issues in professional practice
  • apply adapted communication, patient care and risk assessments for individual patients and next of kin
  • understand the expectations and obligations inherent in interdisciplinary cooperation
  • understand safe use of radiation and optimisation

Teaching and learning methods

The work and teaching methods include self-study, interprofessional cooperative learning and external practical training under supervision for 12 weeks in diagnostic imaging departments.

One week of practical training corresponds to 40 hours of study effort. There are 7 self study days that must distributed over this period. The study days are chosen in collaboration with the supervisor.

Course requirements

En eller to interne sensorer. Ekstern sensor brukes jevnlig.

Assessment

Permitted exam materials and equipment

Ingen ut over opptakskrav.

Grading scale

Etter å ha gjennomført dette emne har studenten følgende læringsutbytte definert i kunnskap, ferdigheter og generell kompetanse:

Kunnskap

Studenten kan gjøre rede for:

  • polymorfisme
  • designmønstre, arkitektur, og modellering
  • rekursive funksjoner
  • alternative programmeringsstiler i Java, som generisk, funksjonell, og samtidig (concurrent) programmering

Ferdigheter

Studenten kan håndtere følgende programmeringskonstruksjoner i Java:

  • abstraksjoner og grafiske brukergrensesnitt
  • unntakshåndtering, enhetstesting, og debugging
  • filbehandling og strømmer
  • tekstmanipulering og regulære uttrykk
  • algoritmer og datastrukturer i Java Collections

Generell kompetanse

Studenten kan:

  • planlegge og gjennomføre større programmeringsprosjekter i grupper
  • bruke moderne programmeringsmiljøer samt lagrings- og distribusjonsverktøy

Examiners

Forelesninger og veiledningstimer. Prosjektarbeid i grupper.
