Introduction
The course consists of six weeks of practical training at a diagnostic imaging department. The practical training focuses on conventional radiography examinations of the skeleton and chest, along with preparation of laboratories and patients for non-contrast CT examinations. The students are to gain practical experience of carrying out diagnostic imaging examinations in a satisfactory manner. The practical training gives students experience of both the technical and care aspects of the profession based on relevant theory.

Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student should have the following learning outcomes defined in terms of skills and general competence:
Skills
The student can
- identify and describe anatomical structures and obvious pathology in images from skeletal and chest examinations
 - master the use of conventional X-ray equipment
 - apply scientific knowledge and perform chest X-ray and the most common skeletal examinations independently
 - assess and choose exposure parameters for conventional radiography examinations
 - describe image criteria and assess image quality for chest and skeletal examinations and carry out simple image processing
 - apply medical image and information systems under supervision, and describe how patients and laboratories are prepared for non-contrast CT examinations
 - recognise anatomical structures in images from non-contrast CT examinations

General competence
The student can
- apply the principles of practical radiation protection
 - apply relevant hygiene guidelines
 - give patients precise and individually information, take care of the patient and create a sense of security during the examination
 - demonstrate attitudes that are important to professional practice and cooperate with other staff

 -

Teaching and learning methods
The students will complete six weeks of external practical training at diagnostic imaging departments.

- a minimum of 90% attendance in practical training

 -

Assessment
