PSYK3910 Bachelor Thesis Course description

The bachelor’s programme concludes with documentation of independent work in the form of a bachelor’s thesis. The course PSYK3910 – Bachelor’s Thesis is worth 30 ECTs (the whole of the sixth semester). Here, the students will take part in the lecturers’ research activities through work corresponding to the scope of PSYKPRA2. The student will also write their bachelor’s thesis in the context of this research activity. The bachelor’s thesis must be written in article form in accordance with the APA standard.

Passed the courses PSYK1100, PSYK1200, PSYK1320, PSYK1420, PSYK1600, PSYK1700, PSYK2100, PSYK2200, PSYK2310, PSYKPRA1, PSYK2400, PSYK2600, PSYK3200, PSYK3400 and PSYK3500.

After completing the course, the student is expected to have achieved the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and competence:

Knowledge

The student has

• broad knowledge of the specific area of specialisation
• knowledge of relevant sources for literature searches
• knowledge of approval procedures for research projects and relevant approval bodies for these
• knowledge of different forms of reporting in accordance with ethical requirements and guidelines
• knowledge of different ways of using the APA template

Skills

The student is capable of

• cooperating and contributing in a research environment and describing the research group’s activities
• performing allocated work independently
• conducting different types of literature searches
• formulating a research question in accordance with general requirements
• planning, conducting and documenting a study, a project work, or a care or training measure
• collecting and processing data
• using the IMRAD model in reporting
• acting in accordance with guidelines for professional ethicsethical principles

Competence

The student is capable of

• demonstrating research ethics and relevant criticism in accordance with academic standards
• disseminating and documenting behaviour analytic work
• exchanging professional opinions and experience and contributing to the development of the field

The course is taken full-time over 18 weeks, two of which may comprise a theoretical introduction. Through cooperation on research activities, the students will have the opportunity to specialise in an area of psychology and in their specific area of interest/project.

The students will also work independently on the bachelor’s thesis. A supervisor from among the department’s staff will be appointed for each student.

• Submission of a thesis overview and time schedule for work in the research environment
• Participation in research group meetings (90%)
• Submission of an outline for the bachelor’s thesis
• Participation in organised supervision (80%)

All required coursework must be approved before the student can submit their bachelor’s thesis.

Individual bachelor’s thesis with a maximum scope of 8,000 words

On application, students may be permitted to write the thesis in pairs. This is on the condition that they have collected the data together and use these in the thesis.
