Introduction
The course provides an introduction to organisation theory and how different ways of thinking in the organisation of work are linked to the development of society, from the emergence of the industrial society to today’s knowledge society. Particular emphasis is placed on understanding processes that contribute to stability and change in organisations. The course also addresses how global developments in technology and the environment affect the organization of work.

After completing the course, the student is expected to have achieved the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills, and competence:
Knowledge
The student can
- describe the historical emergence of different types of labour organisations
- describe main features and changes of the Norwegian labour market and "The Norwegian Model"
- discuss different organizational forms and theoretical perspectives on organised work
- describe what is meant by learning and chancing in organisational structures
- reflect on practice, values and ethical conduct in organisations
- discuss what global development trends in technology, climate, sustainable development and the "green shift" mean for Norwegian working life
Skills
The student can
- reflect on and discuss important developmental features in society, organizations and working life
- apply various mandatory and other sources to analysing, discussing, and presenting key knowledge in the course, both in writing and orally

Teaching and learning methods
The course focuses on the further development of the student's practical and theoretical skills. The practical work in the course is combined with art and dissemination theory.
Projects in the subject
Project 1: Exploration and experimentation I. Individual work: The project provides a basic introduction to contemporary art from the beginning of the 20th century. The relationship between artistic work and theory is central to the project.
Project 2: Dissemination of contemporary art to specific target groups. Group work: The project aims at communicating contemporary art to specific target groups and is directly linked to the field of practice in art and dissemination.
Project 3: Exploration and Experimentation II. Group work: The project builds on Exploration and Experimentation I and provides a basic introduction to contemporary art from the mid-20th century. The relationship between artistic work and theory is central to the project.
Project 4: Communication text. Various forms of communication texts is worked with.
The course ends with an individual exam.

Assessment
Individual written home exam over three days, maximum 3,000 words.
Permitted exam materials and equipment
The course is organized in the form of artistic work and theoretical studies. Project work is an essential part of the study. Teaching takes place with an emphasis on progression, from common basic tasks to independently chosen topics. Presence in the workshop and active participation in the teaching are required. The course uses teaching methods such as lectures, seminars, supervision and debates. The student is expected to obtain relevant subject matter beyond the syllabus and is encouraged to use the learning centers and the resources offered there.
Grading scale
The following work requirements are mandatory and must be approved to appear for the exam:
Project 1: Exploration and experimentation I (individual work):
- An artistic work that includes process work and final product.
- An academic text related to the artistic work (1200 words +/-10%).
Project 2: Communication of contemporary art to specific target groups (group work):
- Group work related to the dissemination of contemporary art to specific target groups with the preparation and implementation of a dissemination design.
- A group report (the number of words depends on the project and will be specified in the work requirement).
Project 3: Exploration and experimentation II (group work):
- An artistic work that includes process work and final product.
- An oral and visual group presentation that describes, discusses, and analyzes the artistic work.
Project 4: Communication text: Individual work with
- a dissemination text of 200 words (+/-10%).
In order to take the exam, the student's absence must not have exceeded 20%.
Examiners
All answers are assessed by one examiner.
An external examiner is used regularly, at a minimum of every third completion of the course. When selecting answers for external evaluation, a minimum of 10 percent of the answers shall be included, with no fewer than 5 answers. The external examiner’s assessment of the selected answers shall benefit all students.
