Introduction
The course is based on lectures, assigned literature, and group assignments (midterm papers). Students are expected to read the course literature and to actively participate in the lectures.

Learning outcomes
Students must submit a coursework requirement of 10 pages (+/-10%), Calibri 12 pt., paragraph 1.5, responding to one of a set of topics suggested by the course lecturer. The topics of the work requirement will reflect main areas of the course curriculum and lectures. The coursework requirement should be written in groups of 3-4 students. Students who are unable to participate in a group can alternatively be allowed to submit an individual paper of about five pages.
Students whose papers are not approved after the first submission will be given the chance to resubmit once. Students whose papers are not approved after two submissions will disqualify from sitting the final examination.

- Political ecology of education
- Established and possible contents of education about environmental and climate change questions as well as green development approaches
- Critical approaches to pedagogy/didactics/education, within political ecology of education frameworks

Teaching and learning methods
The student's learning outcome will be assessed on the basis of an individual six-hour written school examination.

Course requirements
Students may use a spelling dictionary, as well as a bilingual dictionary during the written school exam.

Assessment
After the course, the students must meet the deadline for handing in a revision of their course paper of 3500 - 5000 words plus reference list.
New and postponed examination
In case of a failed exam/valid absence, the candidate may have a new exam under the same conditions when a new/postponed exam is arranged. If the paper is graded with "fail", the candidate must submit a revised version within a given time limit.

Grading scale
The exam papers are assessed by one internal and one external examiner.
A random selection consisting of at least 25% of the exam papers will be graded by both an internal and external examiner. This will inform the grading of the remaining exam papers.

Target group and admission
Target group
We aim to bring together course participants with a broad range of different backgrounds. On the one hand, we want participants who before the course either have studied or started a PhD project with empirical studies concerning questions about sustainability, climate or the environment. On the other hand, we welcome participants who come from the field of education and/or do their PhD project within an education department. Moreover, we invite applicants from various parts of the world.
Admission requirements
- The admission will require a five-year master’s degree (three years + two years) or equivalent qualifications in social sciences, teacher education or in any other subjects or fields for which the course is seen as relevant for the applicant.
- All applicants must submit a brief summary of their PhD project (about ½ - 1 page).
- All applicants must submit a text of 250 - 500 words (+ eventual literature references) about their motivation and background for taking part in this course, and how they consider the course to be relevant for their PhD project.
- Up to five seats will be reserved for applicants who are enrolled as PhD students at OsloMet’s Faculty of Education and International Studies.
