Course history

Introduction

Historie er et godt redskap for å forstå både samfunn, journalistikk og en mediebransje i endring. Mediehistorien gjenspeiler de endringene som har skjedd og studerer relasjonen mellom nye medier og samfunnsutviklingen opp gjennom tidene. Videre er trening i historiefaglig kildearbeid og fremstillingsarbeid særlig relevante ferdigheter både for journalister og fagforfattere. Emnet tilbyr en innføring i norsk offentlighets- og mediehistorie, historisk metode og heuristikk. Emnet tar for seg

  • Norsk offentlighetshistorie, presse- og journalistikkhistorie og sakprosahistorie, inkludert et skandinavisk og internasjonalt perspektiv
  • Perspektiver på nyere digital mediehistorie, blant annet forholdet mellom medier og demokrati
  • Historisk metode
  • Historiske grunnlagsproblemer, inkludert forholdet mellom forklaring og fortelling
  • Mediehistoriens betydning for å forstå utviklingen medieteori og det praktiske mediefeltet
  • Forholdet mellom medier og teknologi

Required preliminary courses

On successful completion of this subject the candidate will have the following knowledge, skills and general competence

Knowledge

The student will have knowledge of:

  • The economic incentives of banks
  • Issues related to the management of banks
  • Recent trends in the banking industry

Skills

The student will be able to analyze:

  • the current business model of banks
  • key issues in bank management
  • how banks are affected by regulation and competition
  • how monetary policy and bank behavior interact to affect aggregate demand and the risks affecting individual banks and the banking system as a whole

General competence

The student should be able to read and understand project reports and journal articles on the following topics:

  • The theory of the banking firm
  • Liquidity management
  • Risk management
  • Credit rationing
  • Banking competition
  • Banking regulation
  • The macroeconomics of banking

Learning outcomes

The course is organized into a series of two-hour lectures and seminars. Students are expected to play an active role in lectures and seminars. Students will also be required to discuss course themes during lectures and seminars.

Teaching and learning methods

This course builds on the course Strategic Human Resources Management and focuses on the management's responsibility for mapping and developing an organisation's working environment.

Assessment

The main work methods in this course are lectures, seminar contributions and role play.

Grading scale

The students will write a semester paper, individually or in pairs. The scope of the paper shall be 12-15 pages for students who write individual papers and 16-20 pages for papers written by two students together (not including the cover page, list of references and appendices) written in Times New Roman 12-point font above with a line spacing of 1.5 and a 2.5 cm left margin.

Students who become ill or fail an exam are entitled to register for a resit/rescheduled exam in the course in accordance with the Regulations relating to Studies and Examinations at OsloMet.

Examiners

All reference aids are allowed as long as the rules for source references are followed.
