The teaching method will be based on a task approach, where a reflexive learning method will be the working methods. The session in Caen, as an intensive and immersive session, will permit an appropriation of French as an elected language that the in-service students integrate so that they can be its emissary in their own class and country. Every module is seen as having two goals that work together: learning and teaching French.

Collaborative work in groups is encouraged, not only during the sessions in Oslo and in Caen, but also by e-learning method: peer-learning, exchange of good practices moderated and supervised by a teacher, collaborative and individual digital portfolio.

The organisation is as follows:

• compulsory intensive course in Caen in July: courses in the classrooms of the university, school outings and investigations in the city
• online period with supervision: online courses, task on the platform, feedback from the peers and the teachers, digital portfolio consisting on an individual blog and an open forum moderated by the teacher; an online course delivered in synchronous time (frequency to be defined). The portfolio is a reflexive task allowing the teacher to ask questions about the way the student learns French, which is why it is based on the language course. The final module aims to rise reflections on the learning types
• intensive course in Oslo: courses in the classrooms of the university

The following coursework requirements must be approved before the student can take the exam:

80 % attendance and participation in face-to-face weeks and virtual sessions.

Language:

One oral presentation: 10 minutes (oral production) followed by a discussion (oral interaction) 5-10 minutes in which every student contributes. Participation in the presentations and the following discussions is compulsory. The activities and exercises aim to enhance oral and written skills, integrating a task focused on vocabulary and grammatical structures.

List of tasks:

• understanding factual and technical information, radio and TV news broadcasts
• describing familiar objects in a basic articulated text
• reporting his/her own experience, express his/ her feeling and reactions
• writing simple well-organised texts
• writing a personal letter to ask or convey information

Culture and society in French-speaking countries:

Two tasks among the list are required:

- Analysing a song (digital writing, ca. 200 words)

- Analysing an extract of a film (oral activity to be done in class, ca. 5 minutes)

- Presenting one prominent figure (digital writing)

Didactics:

• Regular contribution to one’s own online portfolio every two weeks.
• Active participation in the discussion proposed on the forum three times in the semester.
• Participation in one online task.
• One written presentation of one chosen textbook of the task-oriented approach (ca. 300 words in a frame to help the student to write in French). The written presentation aims to evaluate the ability of analysing a foreword, a table of contents, the structure of a lesson, the capacity of evaluating the materials, the documents, the tasks proposed in the textbook, and the ability of choosing the most appropriate textbook following the age, the level, and the objectives of the target learners (the pupils in classes 5-10).
• The student will have to write a first draft of the first written portfolio work preparing their final exams (ca. 500 words) in module II.

Oral exam: The student will be given a task to prepare 24 hours before the oral examination. The theme of the task will be picked from the topics of everyday life in France, by using authentic materials including literature and/or art. In addition, the student will have to link this to reflections about how this theme can be approached in the classroom through an action-oriented approach as a 30 minutes lesson conducted in French.

The exam is in French.

New/postponed exam

The resit/rescheduled exam is organised in the same way as the ordinary exam.

Examination support material is permitted in the preparation period.

A grade scale with A being the highest grade and E the poorest pass grade is used. The grade F means that the student has failed the exam.

The exam will be assessed by two internal examiners. An external programme supervisor will be used in accordance with the Guidelines for Appointment and Use of Examiners at OsloMet.
