MASYD4070 Research Methods, Qualitative Approach Course description

Students will be given an introduction on how to prepare and plan a research project within the framework of a qualitative study design. Students will have the opportunity to discuss potential designs related to their own master's project. Various designs are exemplified, and methods that are illuminated are observation, interview (individual and group interviews / focus groups), discourse analysis and participatory action research. The course provides an introduction to qualitative methodology, enabling students to read and understand and apply scientific articles.

Through critical evaluation of research results, the students will acquire in-depth knowledge of credibility and validity in qualitative research, as well as publication and dissemination of scientific knowledge. Analysis and interpretation of data is emphasized in the form of lectures and exercises. The research role is discussed and the importance of reflection on one's own understanding is discussed. Special research ethical challenges in the planning and implementation of qualitative studies will be highlighted.

Studentenes læringsutbytte vil bli vurdert ved en skriftlig, individuell semesteroppgave på 6-8 sider (eksklusive forside, innholdsfortegnelse, litteraturliste og eventuelle vedlegg) om et oppgitt tema.Skrifttype og skriftstørrelse: Arial / Calibri 12pkt. Linjeavstand: 1,5.

After completing the course, the student is expected to have achieved the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and competence:

• has advanced knowledge of the most commonly used analysis methods in qualitative research

• analysing qualitative data, such as different kinds of text material
• taking a critical approach to the interpretation of qualitative data
• identifying and elucidating research ethics issues in their own projects
• systematically presenting findings from qualitative studies

The student is capable of

• presenting issues of relevance to qualitative design
• disseminating qualitative academic and research results of relevance to the health and social services
• communicating ethical considerations concerning the dissemination of health research

Students will develop a semi-structured interview guide based on a selected issue and/or research question, carry out an interview, transcribe the content and analyse and present the main findings from the interview.

Emnet behandler det administrative arbeidets utvikling og de fenomener og prosesser som er gjenstand for dokumentasjon. Det legger vekt på den forvaltningsmessige, organisatoriske og informasjonsteknologiske utviklingen de seneste 150 årene og dens påvirkning på dokumentasjonspraksis. Emnet har særlig fokus på nåtidens norske administrasjon, forvaltningssystem og organisasjonsprinsipper.

Ingen forkunnskapskrav.

Arbeidsformene veksler mellom forelesninger, diskusjoner, studentpresentasjoner, selvstudium og gruppearbeid.

For å kunne framstille seg til eksamen må studenten få godkjent et arbeidskrav.

Arbeidskravet er en gruppeoppgave. Studentene blir delt i grupper på 3-5 som skal lage en poster om et oppgitt tema i tilknytning til emnets innhold. Posteren skal presenteres for medstudenter og lærere i plenum. Dersom oppgaven ikke blir godkjent, skal gruppen få anledning til å levere en ny versjon.

Arbeidskrav kommenteres skriftlig eller muntlig av faglærer og skal være gjennomført og godkjent innen fastlagt tid før studenten kan framstille seg til eksamen.
