Course history

Introduction

Trauma is a public health issue, and for individuals with trauma disorders to receive proper treatment, mental health workers in specialized and municipal health and care services need updated knowledge.

This course provides an introduction to what trauma is and how traumatic events early in life affect psychological development, and mental and physical health later in life. There is a focus on understanding how stressors such as violence, substance abuse, and mental illness in the family, or abuse and displacement, affect children and adults. The course also covers prevention and working methods for risk assessment, prevention, and management of violence.

The aim of the course is to develop students' understanding, skills, and relational competence in mental health, substance abuse, and addiction work to be able to identify, assess, and interact with individuals experiencing psychological reactions as a result of trauma and crises.

Emnet legger opp til et blandet opplegg med flest digitale dager, som innebærer selvstudium av digitale forelesninger og ressurser og digital spørretime, og noen fysiske forelesninger og studiegrupper.

Course requirements

For å fremstille seg til eksamen må følgende være godkjent:

  • Deltakelse i obligatoriske aktiviteter, 80 % deltakelse på studiegrupper med veileder.
  • Skriftlig oppgave, individuelt eller i gruppe på inntil 3 studenter. Omfang 750 ord (+/-10 %).

Assessment

A project examination in the form of a written assignment in groups of up to three students. Scope: 2,500 words (+/-10%).

Resit examination: If the student is awarded the grade fails the written assignment, he/she will be given one (1) opportunity to submit a reworked version.

Permitted exam materials and equipment

All aids are permitted, as long as the rules for source referencing are complied with.

Grading scale

Pass/fail.

Examiners

Hver besvarelse vurderes av en sensor.

Ekstern sensor benyttes regelmessig, og minimum ved hver tredje gjennomføring av emnet. Ved uttrekk av besvarelser til ekstern sensur skal uttrekket omfatte minimum 10 % av besvarelsene, men uansett ikke færre enn 5 besvarelser. Ved uttrekk skal ekstern sensors vurdering komme alle studentene til gode.
