Course history

Introduction

The course covers management, organisational, legal, health policy, academic and financial framework conditions of significance for the organisation and coordination of mental health care. There is a 100% overlap with the previously compulsory course MAPS4200 Organisation and Coordination Mental Health Care in the Master's programme in Mental Health Care.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the student is expected to have achieved the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and competence:

Knowledge The student has

  • in-depth knowledge of key management theories
  • advanced knowledge of organisational theory - structural, cultural, interpersonal and political perspectives
  • knowledge of national standards, guidelines and guides on mental health care, and of working independently on practical and theoretical problem-solving

Skills The student is capable of

  • applying research-based knowledge in order to analyse issues linked to mental health care
  • analysing and taking a critical approach to health and social policy, legal and financial framework conditions for working in mental health care
  • applying recognised principles to manage, organise and coordinate change processes

Competence The student is capable of

  • applying his/her knowledge and skills about management, organisation and coordination
  • contributing to innovative thinking within management, organisation and coordination in mental health care

Teaching and learning methods

Lectures, students' presentations of various texts, group work and discussions.

Course requirements

The following must have been completed and approved in order for a student to be permitted to take the exam:

  • An assignment in groups of up to three students with a scope of 2,000 words (+/- 20%). Based on a case and relevant literature, students are to discuss factors that are important to change processes in an organisation.
  • The assignment will be presented in a plenary session.

The students have a right to two attempts to meet the coursework requirements.

Assessment

Written home exam over seven days, individually or in groups of up to three students. The scope of the assignment is 2,500 words (+/- 20%) for an individual assignment, and 4,000 words (+/- 20%) for a group assignment.

Permitted exam materials and equipment

All aids are permitted, as long as the rules for source referencing are complied with.

Grading scale

Grade scale A-F

Examiners

All exam papers are assessed by two examiners. A minimum of twenty per cent of the exam papers will be assessed by an external examiner. The external examiner's assessment shall benefit all the students.
