  • Introduction

    Language of instruction: Norwegian

    The purpose of this course is to further develop the students’ practical competence in psychomotor physiotherapy, both individually and in groups. The course provides a theoretical and practical basis for the significance of relations and communication in clinical practice. Practical training period 2 is started during this course.

  • Required preliminary courses

    The student must have been admitted to the Master’s Programme in Health Sciences - Specialisation in Psychomotor Physiotherapy, and hold Norwegian authorisation as a physiotherapist. The students must have passed the courses MAPFY4100 and MAPFY4200.

    It is assumed that the student has access to a practical training establishment/own place of work where they can perform psychomotor physiotherapy treatments on patients.

  • Learning outcomes

    After completing the course, the student should have the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence:

    • can analyse and discuss professional issues related to communication and relationship in therapeutic interaction
    • can assess the use of group-based approaches and when such treatment can be appropriate

    Skills

    The student

    • can apply psychomotor physiotherapy principles in group treatment
    • can assess and evaluate treatment processes and their own role as therapist
    • can analyse therapeutic interaction in treatment settings
    • can assess their own role in interdisciplinary cooperation

    General competence

    The student

    • can analyse and reflect on communication and interaction in clinical practice, individually and in groups
    • can analyse and critically discuss relevant problems related to relations and communication in clinical practice
    • can lead group treatment based on psychomotor physiotherapy
  • Teaching and learning methods

    Work and teaching methods vary between lectures, digital teaching sessions in the form of flipped classroom, supervised skills training and student-active learning methods in the form of group work, seminars and presentations. The course is session-based.

    The students will perform psychomotor physiotherapy on patients at their own place of work/practical training establishment.

  • Course requirements

    The following must have been approved in order for the student to take the examination:

    Coursework requirements that must be approved by the practical training supervisor:

    • completed group supervision of the student’s practical training
    • individual patient journal in accordance with specified criteria

    Coursework requirements that must be approved by the lecturer:

    • A minimum of 80% attendance in skills training and scheduled seminars and group work, and supervision of the student’s practical training in groups
    • Lead a movement group over a minimum of 5 times and an individual reflection note based on experiences with group leadership, up to 1200 words
  • Assessment

    Project examination in groups of up to three students, in the form of a given topic that is developed during the course. Scope: up to 2,500 words.

    Resit examination: If the student is awarded the grade F (fails the written assignment), he/she will be given one (1) opportunity to submit a reworked version.

  • Permitted exam materials and equipment

    Language of instruction: Norwegian

    This course aims to enable the students to acquire specialised practical competence in the field of psychomotor physiotherapy. The trends in society are characterised by increasing ethnic, cultural and linguistic diversity, and an increase in illness and physical complaints among adolescents. This course has a focus on topics such as health and illness in a cultural perspective, as well as health problems in young people. Practical training period 2 is completed during this course.

  • Grading scale

    Grade scale A-F.

  • Examiners

    All answers are assessed by one examiner.

    An external examiner is used regularly, at a minimum of every third completion of the course. When selecting answers for external evaluation, a minimum of 10 percent of the answers shall be included, with no fewer than 5 answers. The external examiner’s assessment of the selected answers shall benefit all students.

  • Overlapping courses

    10 ECTS credits overlaps with PSYFY6200 in the topic relations and communication.
