MANES5000 Anaesthesiology Course description

Anestesisykepleie er en selvstendig fagutøvelse som utføres i nært samarbeid spesielt med anestesiologer, men også med øvrige deltakere i helseteamet. Anestesisykepleierens anestesiologiske virksomheten er delegert av lege og krever spesialisert kompetanse innen anestesiologi. Anestesiologisk arbeid omfatter generell og regional anestesi og observasjoner av pasienter under for eksempel kontrollert sedasjon. I akutte situasjoner kreves det kunnskap for å kunne iverksette rask og adekvat behandling inntil annen hjelp ankommer, og er en forutsetning for nært samarbeid med anestesiologer.

• har inngående kunnskap om ulike anestetika, indikasjon for bruk, effekt og bivirkninger
• har inngående kunnskap om vanlige anestesiteknikker og -former
• har inngående kunnskap om spesielle forhold ved ulike kirurgiske inngrep som har konsekvenser for valg og anvendelse av ulike anestesiformer, -teknikker og -legemidler
• har inngående kunnskap om egenskaper ved spesielle pasientgrupper som stiller krav til valg og utførelse av anestesi
• har inngående kunnskap om traumemekanismer, traumeskåring, triage og transport av traumatiserte pasienter

Nurse anaesthesia is an independent professional practice that takes place in close collaboration with other members of the healthcare team, in particular anaesthetists. The anaesthesiology functions of a nurse anaesthetist are delegated by a doctor and require specialist anaesthesiology competence. Anaesthesiology work comprises general and regional anaesthesia and observing patients under e.g. sedation. Knowledge is required to be able to initiate quick and adequate treatment in acute situations until other help arrives, and is a precondition for close collaboration with anaesthetists.

ABIO6000/MAABI4000, Medisinsk og naturvitenskapelig kunnskap 10 stp., must have been approved in order for a student to be permitted to take the exam for this course.

After completing the course, the student is expected to have achieved the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and competence:

• has in-depth knowledge of different anaesthetics and their uses, effects and side-effects
• has in-depth knowledge of all common anaesthesia forms and techniques
• has in-depth knowledge of special circumstances relating to different surgical procedures that have a bearing on the choice and application of different anaesthesia forms, techniques and drugs
• has in-depth knowledge of characteristics of particular patient groups that have implications for the choice and administration of anaesthetics
• has in-depth knowledge of trauma mechanisms, trauma scoring, triage and transport of trauma patients

Skills:

The student

• is capable of analysing and taking a critical approach to existing theories and methods in nurse anaesthesiology
• is capable of analysing and taking a critical approach to theories on the link between illness/injury and the choice of anaesthetics and anaesthesia methods
