Course history
  • Introduction

    The course focuses on the further development of the student's practical and theoretical skills. The practical work in the course is combined with art and mediation theory.

    Language of instruction: Norwegian

    Projects in the subject

    Project 1: Exploration and experimentation I. Individual work: The project provides a basic introduction to contemporary art from the beginning of the 20th century. The relationship between artistic work and theory is central to the project.

    Project 2: Mediation of contemporary art to specific target groups. Group work: The project aims at communicating contemporary art to specific target groups and is directly linked to the field of practice in art and mediation.

    The course ends with an individual exam.

    After completing this course, the student has the following learning outcomes, defined as knowledge, skills and general competence:

    Knowledge

    The student:

    • has basic knowledge of relevant processes and methods related to artistic work
    • has insight into art history, art and mediation theory, as well as philosophical aesthetics

    Skills

    The student:

    • can explore and experiment in various artistic processes
    • can select and use suitable strategies in artistic, written, and oral communication
    • can mediation art to a selected target group
    • can use artistic tools and relevant theory in own projects

    General competence

    The student:

    • has knowledge of diversity and multicultural perspectives
    • has insight into copyright matters related to the subject area
    • has knowledge of ethical challenges affecting the subject area
  • Teaching and learning methods

    The course is organized in the form of artistic work and theoretical studies. Project work is an essential part of the study. Teaching takes place with an emphasis on progression, from common basic tasks to independently chosen topics. Presence in the workshop and active participation in the teaching are required. The course uses teaching methods such as lectures, seminars, supervision and debates.The student is expected to obtain relevant subject matter beyond the syllabus and is encouraged to use the learning centers and the resources offered there.

  • Course requirements

    The following work requirements are mandatory and must be approved to appear for the exam:

    Project 1: Exploration and experimentation (individual or group work):

    • An artistic project that encompasses both the process and the final art work.
    • An academic text related to the artistic work (1200 words +/-10%).

    Project 2: Dissemination of contemporary art (group work):

    The project aims to communicate contemporary art to specific target groups. The work requirement consists of the following two parts (group work):

    • Group work related to art dissemination, with the preparation of a dissemination design.
    • A group report (number of words depends on the project and will be specified in the assignment text for the work requirement).

    .Mandatory attendance

    Mandatory attendance of 80% is required. In order to sit the exam, the student's absence must not exceed 20%.

  • Assessment

    An individual exam project consisting of two parts, each of which is given a separate part-grade.

    • Part 1: An artistic work with an accompanying dissemination text (200 words +/- 10%), which counts for 50% of the total grade.
    • Part 2: An academic text (1200 words +/-10%), which counts for 50% of the total grade.

    Both exams count for 50% of the final grade, and the combined result of the two parts is rounded up.

    The examination result may be appealed.

    Valid absence - fail

    Students who do not take the exam due to valid absence, or who are awarded an F grade, can register for a resit/rescheduled exam.

  • Permitted exam materials and equipment

    All aids are permitted, as long as the rules for source referencing are met.

  • Grading scale

    Graded A-F.

  • Examiners

    Two internal examiners. The course may be selected for grading by external examiners.
