Introduction
The course focuses on the further development of the student's practical and theoretical skills. The practical work in the course is combined with art and mediation theory.
Projects in the subject
Project 1: Exploration and experimentation I. Individual work: The project provides a basic introduction to contemporary art from the beginning of the 20th century. The relationship between artistic work and theory is central to the project.
Project 2: Mediation of contemporary art to specific target groups. Group work: The project aims at communicating contemporary art to specific target groups and is directly linked to the field of practice in art and mediation.
Project 3: Exploration and Experimentation II. Group work: The project builds on Exploration and Experimentation I and provides a basic introduction to contemporary art from the mid-20th century. The relationship between artistic work and theory is central to the project.
Project 4: Communication text. Various forms of communication texts is worked with.
The course ends with an individual exam.

Learning outcomes
After completing this course, the student has the following learning outcomes, defined as knowledge, skills and general competence:
Knowledge
The student:
- has basic knowledge of relevant processes and methods related to artistic work
- has insight into art history, art and mediation theory, as well as philosophical aesthetics
Skills
The student:
- can explore and experiment in various artistic processes
- can select and use suitable strategies in artistic, written, and oral communication
- can mediation art to a selected target group
- can use artistic tools and relevant theory in own projects
General competence
The student:
- has knowledge of diversity and multicultural perspectives
- has insight into copyright matters related to the subject area
- has knowledge of ethical challenges affecting the subject area
Teaching and learning methods
The course is organized in the form of artistic work and theoretical studies. Project work is an essential part of the study. Teaching takes place with an emphasis on progression, from common basic tasks to independently chosen topics. Presence in the workshop and active participation in the teaching are required. The course uses teaching methods such as lectures, seminars, supervision and debates.The student is expected to obtain relevant subject matter beyond the syllabus and is encouraged to use the learning centers and the resources offered there.
Course requirements
The following work requirements are mandatory and must be approved to appear for the exam:
Project 1: Found Objects. Exploration and experimentation I (individual work):
- An artistic work that includes process work and final product.
- An academic text related to the artistic work (1200 words +/-10%).
Project 2: Mediation through philosophical conversations (group work):
- Group-work related to mediation through philosophical conversations.
- A group report (the number of words depends on the project and will be specified in the work requirement).
Project 3: Postmodernism strategies. Exploration and experimentation II (group work):
- An artistic work that includes process work and final product.
- An oral and visual group presentation that describes, discusses, and analyzes the artistic work.
Project 4: Communication text: Individual work with
- a mediation text of 200 words (+/-10%).
Mandatory attendance
Mandatory attendance of 80% is required. In order to sit the exam, the student's absence must not exceed 20%.
Assessment
An individual exam project (portfolio) consisting of the following parts:
- An artistic work
- An exhibitiob text (200 words +/- 10%).
- An academic text (1200 words +/- 10%).
Grades are given based on an overall assessment of the parts described.
The exam result can be appealed.
Valid absence - fail
Students who do not take the exam due to valid absence, or who are awarded an F grade, can register for a resit/rescheduled exam.
Permitted exam materials and equipment
All aids are permitted, if the rules for source referencing are complied with.
Grading scale
Graded A-F.
Examiners
Two internal examiners. The course may be selected for grading by external examiners.
