KDK1700 Art or design Course description

Dette er et emne der grensene mellom kunst og design undersøkes. Studentene velger seg et allerede eksisterende tredimensjonalt objekt, for eksempel en gjenstand, fra design- eller kunsthistorien. Denne gjenstanden undersøkes gjennom tegning ved bruk av digital programvare. Videre skal studenten finne frem til relevant teori om objektet som er valgt.

In the bachelor's thesis, the student chooses an area of specialization within art and mediation on the basis of artistic and theoretical competence acquired during the course of entire study.

The course begins with a bachelor's preparatory group project.

Learning outcomes

After completing this course, the student has the following learning outcomes:

Knowledge

The student:

• has in-depth knowledge of relevant processes and methods related to artistic work
• has in-depth knowledge of art history, art and mediation theory, as well as philosophical aesthetics
• can apply theory and artistic practice in a societal perspective
• has knowledge of research and development work within the subject area

• can apply project-based working methods and develop solutions adapted to specific contexts
• can apply relevant theories and methods in their own artistic work

General competence

The student:

• can work independently and critically
• has knowledge of diversity and multicultural perspectives
• has insight into copyright matters related to the subject area
• has knowledge of ethical challenges affecting the subject area

The course begins with a bachelor's preparatory project, Artistic Manifests (individual and group work). The project focuses on different artistic and theoretical approaches in art and mediation, related to artistic manifests.

The work on the bachelor's thesis will mainly take place in the form of independent work through process-oriented writing and investigative theoretical and artistic work. Teaching is given in the form of continuous guidance seminars with opposition. The students are responsible for their own learning, organization and implementation of the work.

In order to be permitted to sit the exam in the course, the following compulsory coursework must have been completed and approved: Project Artistic manifesto (individual and group work):

• An artistic manifesto (group work)
• An artistic work (individual work)
• An exhibition (group work)

The bachelor project:

• submission of three written project outlines with progress schedule
• three oral and visual presentations at seminars for fellow students and lecturers as well as one individual theoretical seminar

The required coursework is compulsory and assessed as approved/not approved.

Mandatory attendance

Mandatory attendance of 80% is required. In order to sit the exam, the student's absence must not exceed 20%.

The bachelor's thesis consists of the following parts. The parts are assessed together, and given one total grade for the thesis as a whole:

• An artistic work with a communication text of 200 words (+/-10%)
• An academic text of 5 800 words (+/-10%)

The paper shall comply with the guidelines for written assignments and the relevant syllabus shall be used in the paper. The result of the exam can be appealed.

The bachelor's thesis can be carried out individually or in a group. In group examinations, the scope of the bachelor's thesis is multiplied by the number of members in the group and the members of the group receive the same grade. If it is chosen to work in a group, this must already be presented at the first guidance seminar.

Valid Absence - fail

Students who do not take the exam due to valid absence, or who are awarded an F grade for the bachelor’s thesis, can register for a resit/rescheduled exam.

If the student is taking the resit exam, the bachelor’s thesis that was given an F grade in the ordinary exam must be significantly reworked/improved. If the student is taking the rescheduled exam, the bachelor’s thesis must be submitted pursuant to agreement with the faculty administration.

All aids are permitted as long as rules for citing sources are followed.
