Course history
  • Introduction

    The course introduces the students to the field of practice in physiotherapy and the basic laws and guidelines that govern the field. The students will observe and participate in functional investigations, plan, carry out and document in writing personalised measures under supervision. As part of this, the application of exercise teaching principles, motivational theories and communication with users, patients and relatives is included. In addition, interprofessional collaboration at practical training institution is actualised. Through the course, the student will gain experience in reflecting on and adapting their own practice. Relevant practice arenas are all professional situations in which physiotherapists are active.

    The student must have been admitted to the study programme.

  • Learning outcomes

    After completing the course, the student has the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence:

    Knowledge

    The student can

    • explain basic functional examination and personalised interventions in patients, users or next of kin
    • describe basic understandings of the physiotherapist's supervisory role in practice situations
    • describe methods for updating their own knowledge in practice situations
    • account for basic applications of digital technology in the field of practice

    Skills

    The student can

    • apply and adjust basic examinations for users and patients and document this in writing with precise professional terminology
    • master training theory principles, and motivational theories in individual supervision of exercises for patients and users
    • seek up-to-date knowledge and participate in academic discussions at the practical training institution
    • perform life-saving first aid

    General competence

    The student can

    • explain the importance of legislation and ethical guidelines that regulate practice
    • reflect on their own skills and limitations, show responsibility and the ability to adjust behaviour and actions in line with feedback
    • demonstrate an understanding of and can apply ethical assessments in encounters with patients, especially with regard to touch, undressing and communication
    • reflect on how digital technology can be used as part of quality improvement of health services
    • account for how practical experience can be linked to theoretical knowledge
  • Teaching and learning methods

    The work and teaching methods in the course include introductory practice, participation with presentations at seminars and self-study. The course is carried out over three weeks. The student takes the initiative to obtain an internship after further information. All places where physiotherapists work are relevant practice arenas.

  • Course requirements

    The following must have been approved in order for the student to take the exam

    • Minimum attendance of 90 % participation in introductory practice
    • Submitted, completed and signed practice documents
    • Participation and presentations at digital seminars, individually or in groups
    • Completed course in life-saving first aid
  • Assessment

    Resit assessment: Students who fail a period of practical training normally have to retake the whole practical training period.

  • Permitted exam materials and equipment

    Not relevant.

  • Grading scale

    Pass/Fail.

  • Examiners

    The final assessment is carried out by the lecturer on the recommendation of the practical training supervisor. The final decision on whether to award a pass or fail grade is made by the university.

  • Overlapping courses

    2 credits overlap with FYB1000 Function - Examination and Assesment Tools and 3 credits with FYB1300 Body, Movement and Activity.
