  • Learning outcomes

    After completing the course, the student is expected to have achieved the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence:

    Knowledge

    The student:

    • has knowledge of numerical systems
    • has knowledge of logical algebra
    • has knowledge of methods for analysing and designing digital circuits
    • is familiar with the most commonly used combinatory and sequential circuits and knows how to use them
    • is familiar with FPGA

    Skills

    The student is capable of:

    • reading and understanding a circuit diagram and performing troubleshooting if necessary
    • discussing a circuit solution and explaining how it works
    • using manufacturer manuals and data sheets
    • designing digital circuits and verifying the solution

    General competence

    The student:

    • is capable of analysing a problem and specifying a solution method
    • is capable of discussing different solution methods
    • is capable of programming an FPGA
    • has basic knowledge of the structure and functioning of digital circuits
  • Teaching and learning methods

    Theory lectures, laboratory work and computer exercises. Theoretical exercises are not compulsory.

  • Course requirements

    The following coursework is compulsory and must be approved before the student can sit the exam:

    • five lab exercises
  • Assessment

    Individual written exam, 3 hours.

    The exam result can be appealed.

    In the event of a resit or rescheduled exam, an oral examination may be used instead. In case an oral exam is used, the examination result cannot be appealed.

  • Permitted exam materials and equipment

    A handheld calculator that cannot be used for wireless communication or to perform symbolic calculations. If the calculator’s internal memory can store data, the memory must be deleted before the exam. Random checks may be carried out.

  • Grading scale

    Grade scale A-F.

  • Examiners

    One internal examiner. External examiners are used regularly.
