Required preliminary courses

After completion of the course, the student will have acquired the following learning outcomes, defined as knowledge, skills and general competence.

Knowledge

The student

  • has extensive knowledge of language didactics adapted for years 8-10.
  • has knowledge of language learning theories and metacognition in a multicultural perspective.
  • has thorough knowledge of the curriculum, the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, the European Language Portfolio ages 6-12 and 13-18 and the European Language Portfolio for language teacher students.

Skills

The student

  • is capable of communicating orally and in writing and freely using key language structures of Spanish and varied vocabulary in different social situations.
  • is capable of planning and applying different work methods that promote exploration, curiosity and creativity in Spanish and in an interdisciplinary perspective.
  • is capable of using midway evaluation as a means of motivating the pupils in their language learning.
  • has pedagogical digital competence and is able to use digital tools related to language learning activities.

General competence

The student

  • is capable of assessing his/her own teaching practice and interaction with others in professional practice.
  • is capable of guiding the pupils in the development of learning and communication strategies.
  • is capable of integrating the basic skills in the Spanish language subject.
  • is capable of using scientific methods to further develop his/her own practice and actively contribute to the work on innovation processes at school.
  • is capable of integrating the development of intercultural competence in the Spanish language subject.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the student is expected to have achieved the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence:

Knowledge

The student:

  • Has knowledge of communication through mask play and movement
  • has knowledge of some basic methods and devices of stage arts
  • has knowledge of the importance of cooperation in creative, collective processes

Skills The student:

  • can apply the chosen performative expressions
  • can apply basic techniques in selected forms of scenic expression
  • can apply movement in combination with verbal and non-verbal text
  • masters cooperation in creative processes of art and contribute to a good environment for learning

General competence The student:

  • is capable of assessing their own and orther's work with respect to both the process and product
  • has knowledge of basic principles of what is demanded of cooperation in ensemble work

Content

The course covers three main areas:

  • Expression and interaction with focus on body and movement through acting with masks and movement theatre
  • Work on stage text both verbal and non-verbal

Teaching and learning methods

Practical exercises will form the basis for work on expression and interaction, either in small groups or classes.

The subject is largely based on learning together with others. This type of learning process requires togetherness and cooperation over time. The students are therefore expected to be present and actively participate in teaching activities and group work. Note that the study is demanding, and that study days are often spent on group work or other study related activities.

In some cases lectures may be given in English

Some teaching may be in English.

Course requirements

The following coursework is compulsory and must be approved before the student can sit the exam:

  • Make a theatremask
  • A note on 1500-2000 words, about one's own's work with stage expression
  • 80 % mandatory precence in lessons

The student cannot be absent for more than 20 % of teaching and supervision activities. See the teaching plans for more information.

Assessment

The exam in the course is:

1. Practical performance exam - Group The students are given a practical task. The group has one week to prepare a performance. The group can have between 3-6 members. In some cases a student may have to do an individual exam.

The result of the exam cannot be appealed.

Assessment

In some cases, practical/oral group exams can be held as individual exams.

All parts of the exam must be awarded the grade E or better in order for the student to pass the course.

Grading scale

The exam will be assessed by two internal examiners. An external programme supervisor is affiliated with the course in accordance with the Guidelines for Appointment and Use of Examiners at OsloMet.
