Course history

Introduction

The internet and the web is fundamental to those who will have data processing and IT as a profession. The industry expects all developers to have a basic understanding of web interfaces. In this course, you will learn to code in HTML and CSS to create websites. You will be introduced to contemporary expectations for universal accessibility, and best practice for environments for software development and version control.

Learning outcomes

After completing this course, the student has defined the following learning outcomes in the form of knowledge, skills and general competence:

Knowledge

Students:

  • knows the central role that the web and the internet have in modern data processing
  • is familiar with relevant programming tools and repositories with version control
  • has basic knowledge of and experience with collaboration in software development as a form of work

Skills

Students:

  • can create user-friendly and universally designed solutions in line with legislation
  • build webpages with the key technologies for web (HTML, CSS)
  • can use current development tools and version control
  • can plan, organize and implement smaller IT projects

General competence

After this subject, the students can:

  • design and create a simple website with static web pages in HTML 5 and CSS 3
  • evaluate if a website adheres to guidelines of universal accessibility
  • create a website in accordance to principles for good structure and interaction design

Teaching and learning methods

Lectures and exercises.

Self-study with active use of external resources is expected.

Course requirements

One group assignment (3-5 students) with code delivered in a git-repository with version control.

Assessment

Individual written exam, 2 hours

The exam result can be appealed.

In the event of resit and rescheduled exams, another exam form may be used. If oral exams are used, the result cannot be appealed.

Examiners

One or several internal sensors. External sensor is used regularly.
