Introduction

ERGO3100(a) Ergoterapi og allmennhelse/Occupational Therapy and Primary Health Care

This part consists of the following subject areas from the national curriculum, specified below as the number of credits:

  • Habilitative work (2 ECTS)
  • Rehabilitative work (2 ECTS)
  • Health-promoting and preventive work (0,5 ECTS)
  • Ideas, theory and ecxperience (2 ECTS)
  • Sociology and social anthropology (1, 5 ECTS)
  • Psychology and pedagogy, communication, interaction and conflict work (1 ECTS)
  • State and municipal studies, health and social policy (1 ECTS)

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the student is expected to have achieved the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and competence:

Knowledge

The student

  • has broad knowledge of occupational science and activity theory
  • has broad knowledge of public health, health promoting, preventative and rehabilitative and habilitative work in the municipal health sector relating to occupational theory tasks
  • has broad knowledge about different perspectives on user participation and citizenship, forms of participation and participation policy
  • has insight into legislation and public guidelines in the municipal health service focusing on activity and participation
  • has knowledge about and can evaluate the organisation of the welfare state, administration systems and institutions relating to occupational therapy tasks in the municipal health sector, including exposure to competition and need for voluntary work
  • is capable of giving an account of quality assurance and development of services
  • has knowledge of interprofessional and intersectional cooperation on different levels

Skills

The student is capable of

  • discussing and critically reflecting on measures promoting activity and participation in different arenas of daily life
  • reflecting on the role of the occupational therapist in the municipal health service including the role as guide, counsellor and innovator
  • critically reflecting on different forms of user participation
  • justifying and discussing health promoting, preventative, rehabilitative and habilitative work in the municipal health service on a group and system level
  • justifying and critically reflecting on occupational therapy methods in welfare technology, communication of aids and facilities, housing adaptation, and facilitation of surroundings including universal design

Competence

The student is capable of

  • reflecting on the occupational therapy profession in different arenas of the municipal health service
  • arguing in favour of innovation and professional development in the municipal health service
  • demonstrating insight into continuity and coordination between different levels and interaction between professions, interest groups and volunteers
  • documenting and communicating knowledge-based practice in primary health care both in written form and orally

ERGO3100(b) - Ergoterapi og arbeidshelse/Occupational Therapy in Occupational Health

This part consists of the following subject areas from the national curriculum, specified below as the number of credits:

Knowledge

The student

  • is capable of discussing the work´s significance for human activity and participation from an individual, cultural and social perspective
  • has broad knowledge of theories and models relating to health-promoting and preventive work in the field of occupational health
  • has insight into legislation that applies to work and occupational health
  • is capable of discussing new research in occupational health

Skills

The student is capable of

  • applying and discussing theories, models and methods for mapping and intervention on an individual, group and system levelcritically reflecting on occupational therapy tasks and methods in occupational health
  • demonstrating skills in guiding, counselling and teaching in working life both in relation to individuals and groups
  • discussing measures on the individual, group and system levels, with a focus on integration, mastery and participation at work
  • documenting knowledge-based practice in occupational health

Competence

The student

  • is capable of critically reflecting on ethical dilemmas in occupational healthconducts him/herself in a manner that values and respects the different parties in working life
  • can initiate cooperation and coordination between different parties in working life
  • is familiar with innovation work in working life

Required preliminary courses

Teaching consists of lectures and seminars where students are actively involved through the presentation of assignments, discussion and reflection. Group work with supervision and skill training are also included. The students will write a portfolio assignment in groups and individually, and they will gather the basis for some of the assignments by visiting both the municipal health service and the local community.

In ERGO3100(b) the students complete a project in a company. The students must themselves obtain an agreement with the company.

Learning outcomes

A minimum attendance of 80% is required in the introduction to the course, skills training, supervision, seminars and compulsory group work.

Teaching and learning methods

In order to sit the exam, the student must meet the compulsory attendance requirements.

Grade scale A - F

Permitted exam materials and equipment

One external and one internal examiner will assess at least 20% of the students. Two internal examiners assess the remaining students. The external examiner´s assessment shall benefit all students.
