Required preliminary courses

After completing the course, the student is expected to have achieved the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence:

Knowledge

The student is familiar with:

  • Building physics subjects such as indoor climate, heat insulation, damp, soundproofing and fire safety
  • load-bearing systems and design principles for wooden houses
  • methods of oral, written and visual communication and presentation

Skills

The student is capable of:

  • cooperating on group projects
  • collecting facts, analysing, designing, implementing and applying the technologies required to solve specific interdisciplinary tasks
  • planning and designing simple wooden house structures
  • carrying out simple heat and moisture transmission calculations for building elements
  • creating simple technical construction drawings using BIM tools
  • presenting results with the help of drawings, written reports and oral presentations

General competence

The student is capable of:

  • cooperating with and respecting the roles of other professional groups in a design process
  • identifying regulations, instructions and documentation
  • identifying sustainable performance of own profession, with the emphasis on energy and the environment
  • communicating through and interpreting simple 2D and 3D drawings

Learning outcomes

Lectures, project work and computer lab modelling using BIM tools.

Teaching and learning methods

The following coursework is compulsory and must be approved before the student can sit the exam:

Completed lab course in BIM modelling in Revit (12 h) with two compulsory assignments. Modelling skills are necessary to be able to complete the project. Project work in groups (approx. 90 h) with submission of three sub-assignments, participation in the pro-lab, and final submission and presentation of the project.

Individual digital home exam, 3 hours.

Permitted exam materials and equipment

Aids autumn 2021:

All aids allowed except communication with others.

[Aids earlier:]

A handheld calculator that cannot be used for wireless communication or to perform symbolic calculations. If the calculator’s internal memory can store data, the memory must be deleted before the exam. Random checks may be carried out.
