Course history

Introduction

Kunnskapsområdet samfunn, religion, livssyn og etikk (SRLE) omfatter barnehagens samfunnsmandat og særskilte verdigrunnlag i et samfunn preget av mangfold.

Kunnskapsområdet gir en forståelse av barnehagen med utgangspunkt i det samfunnet barnehagen er en del av. Kunnskap om samfunnsmessige forutsetninger samt kulturelle og religiøse utviklingslinjer er en viktig innfallsvinkel. Målet er å gi barnehagelæreren en konkret forståelse av hva det vil si å leve i et flerkulturelt samfunn og pedagogisk kompetanse i arbeid med religiøse, språklige, kulturelle og sosiale forskjeller i barnehagen. Utdanningens plassering i en storby understøtter dette perspektivet. Barnehagelæreren trenger innsikt i og evne til å forholde seg til en barnegruppe med ulike tros- og livssynstradisjoner og ulik sosial og kulturell bakgrunn. Kunnskapsområdets arbeid med grunnleggende verdier i barnehagen gir barnehagelæreren et godt grunnlag for samarbeid med foreldre, samt gir et grunnlag for personalmessig og pedagogisk ledelse i barnehagen.

Learning outcomes

The Nordic countries have a long tradition of outdoor education. This course focuses on play and movement, and experimental work related to a variety of environments in educational contexts. The course will have a theoretical and practical approach to the topics. The students’ own experiences from acting, moving and living in nature are a key element in the course. Field trips and hiking tours are embedded in the course.;

The course content is based on the two disciplines natural science and physical education. With kindergartens and schools as the target area, the course seeks to provide insight into and competency in outdoor education, play and movement and how to organise didactic courses and activities for children. Furthermore, the students will compare the knowledge they acquire with the pedagogical traditions in their own country. The pedagogical project has a problem-based focus on play, movement, nature and/or outdoor education.

Joint events with the other Nordic Childhoods courses are integrated as overnight trips and outdoor excursions. The courses focus on play, learning by doing, experience and workshops and also visits to schools, kindergartens and other institutions.

Content

The final assessment consists of an individual paper on a chosen topic;(4000-4500 words). If the student makes a practical product, the written part only needs to be 2000 words).; The individual paper should

  • have an individually chosen topic
  • be an in-depth study of the;individually chosen topic;

The paper can

  • be a purely theoretical study/analysis
  • include practical;studies
  • test out educational ideas linked;to the subject
  • be a performance etc., including theoretical reflections on;the choices made;

The topic must be approved by the course leader(s).

New or postponed examinations

If a student;fail the exam or in case absence at the time of the exam for a valid reason, the student is entitled to resit the exam make the following;semester. The re-examination will be organised;in the same manner as the ordinary;exam. Students who fail the exam, may submit an improved paper for the; resit exam. The regulations for resit and rescheduled ;exam;are available in the Regulations relating to studies and examinations at OsloMet. Students must register for a resit;or rescheduled examination.

Course requirements

Retten til å avlegge eksamen forutsetter godkjente arbeidskrav og deltakelse i obligatoriske aktiviteter og tilstedeværelse i undervisning.

Arbeidskrav

  • Tre individuelle skriftlig innleveringer på 1000 ord +/- 10%. Formålet er at studentene skal reflektere over forholdet mellom teoretisk og praktisk kunnskap underveis i emnet samt oppøve evnene til å formidle skriftlig kunnskap innen temaet.

Obligatoriske aktiviteter

Studentaktive læringsformer med hverandrevurdering og/eller tilbakemeldinger

  • Deltakelse på fagseminar. a) Hver student gjennomfører et prosjekt med minimum 4 aktiviteter i egen barnehage med fokus på tematikk fra kunnskapsområdet og knyttet til barnehagens årsplan. b) Prosjektet dokumenteres og deles med studiegruppen c) Hver gruppe lager en digital presentasjon, med utgangspunkt i et refleksjonene studiegruppen gjør seg, gjennomført prosjekt, med tekst og lyd (5-8 minutter) som leveres på læringsplattformen. Gruppene gir hverandre respons på presentasjonene. Formålet er å knytte teoretisk kunnskap til et praktisk prosjekt, samt begrunne valg og formidle dette ved bruk av digitale verktøy.
  • Deltakelse i praksisseminar i forkant og etterkant av praksisperiodene. Formålet er at studentene skal være godt forberedt før praksisperioden og at studentene skal reflektere og knytte erfaringer fra praksis til undervisning

Assessment

Fairytales and Creativity is one of the courses under;Nordic Childhoods. It;focuses on Nordic culture where nature plays an important role in society, aesthetics and in work with children. Joint events with the other Nordic Childhoods courses, are integrated as overnight trips and outdoor excursions. We also visit schools, kindergartens and other institutions. We focus on play, learning by doing, experience and workshops.

In the Fairytales and Creativity course we ask: Why do stories appeal to modern man? In what way can stories contribute to increasing;knowledge about today's cultural expressions, and about ourselves? How can we use stories in contexts relevant to different pedagogical approaches? The objective of the course is to introduce students to the storytelling tradition;of western culture and the main theories of myths and basic mythology. Important elements in the course are: the difference between myths, fairytales and legends; structural theories, psychological theories, eclectic theories; myths and religion.;

The purpose of these coursework requirements is to gain experience of;storytelling, to practise creating enthusiasm for theory, to gain;international experience beyond the ordinary;lectures and workshops, to acquire practical skills in connection with a vocation, and to get first-hand experiences of;the local context of the course.
