Opptakskravet er generell studiekompetanse eller tilsvarende realkompetanse og opptaksprøve.

Opptaksprøven prøver kandidatens funksjonelle ferdigheter i norsk og tolkespråket. Statsautoriserte tolker er direkte kvalifisert for opptak. Statsautoriserte translatører og fagoversettere avlegger muntlig opptaksprøve.

Det tilbys opptaksprøver på utvalgte språk ved hvert opptak. Det er et begrenset antall plasser i hver språkgruppe. Dersom det er flere søkere enn tilgjengelige studieplasser, rangeres søkerne etter resultat på opptaksprøven. Statsautoriserte tolker har førsteprioritet på de språk som tilbys.

Kompetanse

Bestått eksamen i emnet Tolking i offentlig sektor kvalifiserer for oppføring i Nasjonalt tolkeregister kategori 3 («tolk med tolkeutdanning»). Emnet danner grunnlag for opptak til videre påbyggingsemner i faget tolking ved Høgskolen i Oslo og Akershus.

Required preliminary courses

Emnet inneholder fire temakretser:

  1. Yrkesetikk og profesjonskunnskap: tolkens ansvarsområde i offentlig sektor, yrkesetikken og dens menneskerettslige grunnlag, profesjonalitet og profesjonsutvikling.
  2. Tolkens plass i kommunikasjonen: den institusjonelle samtalen og tolkens plass i denne, tolketeknikk og metodevalg; kultur og maktrelasjoner i institusjonelle samtaler generelt og i tolkede samtaler spesielt.
  3. Tolkens verktøy: språk som fenomen, kommunikasjonsmiddel og verktøy; språklige registre og språklige nyanser; utvikling og vedlikehold av tospråklige ferdigheter.
  4. Spesifikk kontekstkunnskap fra et utvalg fagområder i offentlig sektor som grunnlag for tolkens utvikling av strategier i tilegnelsen av stadig ny kontekstkunnskap og terminologi i norsk og tolkespråket.

Learning outcomes

Part 1) The midway assessment is made by the practical training supervisor and the contact lecturer at the university. The final assessment is made by the practical training supervisor. The final decision on whether to award a pass or fail grade is made by the university.

Part 2) Written exam is assessed by two internal examiners. An external examiner contributes to the preparation of the question papers and assessment criteria.

The course consists of the following subject areas, specified below as the number of credits:

  • Ethics, profession and health legislation: 3 credits
  • Communication and interaction: 2 credits

  • External practical training at a laboratory, 10 credits

Course requirements

Assessment

After completing the course, the student is expected to have achieved the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence:;

Knowledge;

The student;

  • can describe what characterises a health profession and explain the concept of professional competence
  • can explain the biomedical laboratory scientist’s professional role in a historical and future-oriented perspective, and with an emphasis on cooperation with other health professions
  • is familiar with laboratory analyses’ role in the health service
  • has basic knowledge of the collection of venous blood samples
  • can describe theories for good communication and strategies for cooperation in groups
  • can explain the concept of culture and challenges related to intercultural communication
  • can explain laws and regulations relevant to the professional practice of health personnel
  • can explain ethical theories, professional ethics and concepts relevant to the professional practice of health personnel
  • has knowledge of different perspectives on health and disease
  • is familiar with safety procedures relating to infection and the handling of biological material

Skills;

The student

  • can make plans for and carry out small projects in groups and present the results from the work
  • can draw blood samples from fellow students in accordance with applicable guidelines

General competence

The student

  • can identify, reflect on and discuss different issues they might encounter in their future professional practice

Permitted exam materials and equipment

Work and teaching methods include lectures and group assignments.;The students practise taking blood samples and learn about pertaining waste procedures.

Grading scale

In order to be permitted to take the exam, the following must have been approved:;

  • a minimum of 80 per cent attendance in scheduled group work
  • completed blood sample collection course
  • completed e-learning course in waste management

Examiners

All exam papers are assessed by two examiners. A minimum of fifty per cent of the exam papers will be assessed by an external examiner. The external examiner’s assessment shall benefit all students.
