Course history

Introduction

This module looks at some of the different approaches used to support the design process; from ideas generation and concept development to making and refining prototypes. Students will explore this through a series of creative exercises and given tasks. The module seeks to develop the students' exploratory abilities and challenge conventional thinking, while building and developing foundational design skills. The module explores both analogue and digital media.

Learning outcomes

On completion of this module students should have achieved the following learning outcomes, defined as knowledge, skills and general competency:

Knowledge

The student

  • understands key methodologies applicable for ideas generation and concept development; as well as for designing and prototyping products, sustaining creativity and innovation
  • is able to explain relationships between experimental design methods and product development
  • is aware of the function of aesthetics in relation to products

Skills

The student

  • is able to consider, discuss and apply different material and aesthetic properties
  • is able to conduct research and analyse and apply this to research questions
  • is capable of using basic 2D and 3D materials for ideation, analysis and product development
  • is able to explore and develop ideas and concepts
  • is able to document and present developmental processes

General Competency

The student

  • is capable of selecting and applying appropriate creative methods for developing concepts and products
  • is capable of demonstrating a reflexive attitude to their own practice and capable of making appropriate adjustments to this in response to advise from tutors
  • is capable of reflecting over connections between theory and practice relative to products

Content

The following must have been approved in order for the student to receive a final assessment:

  • a minimum attendance of 80 % in external practical training in an enterprise and clinical observational practice and compulsory supervision
  • individual portfolio in accordance with set criteria that documents self-produced works during the practical training in an enterprise
  • individual subject note relating to the clinical observational practice, up to 2,000 words

Teaching and learning methods

Practical training has requirements for attendance 90 %. The student fills in a self-presentation for the start of the practice and self-assessment for the mid- and final assessment. Other compulsory activities included in the assessment of practical training are:

  • Simulation palliation in home-based services - 2 days.
  • Innovation and service development, participation in workshops related to innovation and innovation processes - 2 days.
  • Group assignment (3-5 students) - based on learning outcomes in the course, the group formulates an issue related to nursing in private homes or in care homes. Creates a project description for the mid-term evaluation. Scope 1000 words (+/- 10 %). Based on the project description, the group creates a poster that is presented at a seminar before the final assessment.

Mappevurdering

De to refleksjonsnotatene utvikles videre etter veiledningen. De to notatene leveres (elektronisk) til eksamenskontoret i en mappe til oppgitt frist. Hvert refleksjonsnotat skal ved eksamen være på 4000 ord (+/-10 %).

Dersom mappen får karakteren F ved ordinær eksamen, kan en omarbeidet versjon leveres til påfølgende ny/utsatt eksamen. Ved ytterligere eksamensforsøk må helt ny mappe leveres.

Permitted exam materials and equipment

Retten til å avlegge eksamen forutsetter godkjente arbeidskrav og deltakelse i bestemte faglige aktiviteter.

  • Individuelt muntlig seminarframlegg på ca. 20 minutter, inkludert muntlig respons fra gruppen. Arbeidskravet er knyttet til pensum i emne 1. Nærmere retningslinjer vil bli gitt.

Formålet med framlegget er å øve evne til lesing, syntetisering og presentasjon av sentralt fagstoff for andre. Ved manglende eller ikke-godkjent arbeidskrav vil det bli gitt en skriftlig kompensatorisk oppgave av tilsvarende omfang etter nærmere avtale med faglærer.
