Programme description
  • Introduction

    During this course, students will receive training in Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) at the institute's workshops. Passing the exam certifies the candidate to use the institute's workshops, machines, and materials. It is mandatory for bachelor's students at the Department of Product Design to be certified to carry out exam work in at least three of the five workshop areas at the institute.

  • Learning outcomes

    After completing the course, the student has achieved the following learning outcomes, defined in knowledge, skills, and general competence:

    Knowledge

    The student is familiar with:

    • Methods and procedures for responsible material processing of wood, metal, ceramics, concrete, textiles, and polymers, along with associated supporting materials.

    Skills

    The student can:

    • Use machines and materials in the workshops in accordance with the department's HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) regulations and instructions from supervisors.

    General Competence

    The student can:

    • Practice responsible behavior and maintain a positive workshop culture in collaboration with fellow students and supervisors, in alignment with the department's HSE regulations.
  • Teaching and learning methods

    Lectures, method demonstrations and individual supervised exercises. Work individually or in groups.

  • Course requirements

    The following coursework is mandatory and must be approved in order to take the exam:

    • Participation in all HSE-related lectures and all learning activities related to at least three workshop areas.
  • Assessment

    The purpose of the exam in this course is to ensure that the candidate can work according to correct principles of health, safety, and environment (HSE), minimizing the risk of endangering themselves, others, equipment, and the environment.

    The exam consists of ongoing instruction and observation throughout the course, where academic supervisors assess the candidate's approach to work through practical exercises in the department's workshops. Particular emphasis is placed on the candidate's ability to demonstrate an understanding of risk assessment.

    It is mandatory for bachelor students at the Department of Product Design to be certified to carry out exam work in at least three out of five of the department's workshop areas.

  • Permitted exam materials and equipment

    All aids are permitted, supporting references must adhere to rules for citation.

  • Grading scale

    Pass/fail.

  • Examiners

    Two internal examiners.
