Required preliminary courses

This course focuses on people’s everyday life, living conditions and social challenges that impact their quality of life. The students will learn about social work relating to different phases of and transitions in life. The course sheds light on how the challenges and problems of everyday life can be prevented, remedied and coped with. It also takes on a critical perspective on norms and the concept of normality. Students will learn about how social workers can identify and support individuals’ coping strategies, motivate change and provide help and support in demanding life situations.

Teaching and learning methods

The students shall develop skills in carrying out, in an independent and systematic manner, an extensive, practically oriented project based on a client’s requirements. The students shall demonstrate that they can translate their knowledge into practical solutions. They shall be capable of applying basic rules for user quality to analysis, design, implementation, interfaces and documentation. They shall be capable of producing satisfactory documentation for computer programs and systems concerning products, operation and use, adapted to the different recipients of this documentation, and of providing an expedient description of their own work process based on given standards.

Course requirements

Students must be registered in the third year and have completed at least 100 credits from the first and second years of the programme by 1 October, before they can write their bachelor’s thesis.

Assessment

An individual written home exam over 48 hours. The answer paper should be 7-9 pages long. Font and font size: Calibri 12-point. Line spacing 1.5. The approved citation style APA for assignments must be complied with.

Candidates who fail or who were absent from the ordinary exam for a valid reason can take a resit/rescheduled exam.

Permitted exam materials and equipment

Project supervision. Project work in groups. The groups normally comprise 3 to 4 students. The students shall carry out a project corresponding to the scope of the course, preferably for an external client. Detailed information and deadlines for the different phases of the project work will be provided on the course’s web page and in the teaching plan that is announced at the start of the semester. A selection of workshops and seminars.

Grading scale

The exam papers are assessed by one internal and one external examiner. At least 25% of the exam papers will be assessed by two examiners. The grades awarded for the papers assessed by two examiners form the basis for determining the level for all the exam papers.
