Introduction
I dette kurset vil vi lære å bruke spillteori for å analysere markeder med imperfekt konkurranse, noe som kjennetegner et flertall av markedene studentene senere vil komme ut for. Kurset vil gi studenten en dypere forståelse av de underliggende mekanismene bak bedriftenes valg av strategier i slike markeder. Når få bedrifter konkurrerer i et marked med et fåtall aktører, vil det være strategisk interaksjon mellom bedriftene - en bedrifts strategivalg (f.eks. prissetting, produksjonskvantum, markedsføring) påvirker strategivalget til andre bedrifter. Studentene vil i løpet av kurset bli i stand til å evaluere og predikere ulike utfall av konkurransen i markedet. Gjennom forelesninger og seminarer vil studentene lære seg å beherske sentrale spillteoretiske modeller for imperfekt konkurranse (oligopol): priskonkurranse, kvantumskonkurranse, nettverkskonkurranse, produktdifferensiering, etableringshindre, FoU og markedsføring. Vi vil også se spesielt på auksjoner.

Teaching and learning methods
Teaching is in the form of lectures, student presentations, discussions, group work, seminars and assignments. A high degree of independent activity is expected in the course. The teaching will mainly be problem-based using examples and cases from the students' practical experiences. Literature and studies of rulings are main components of the teaching sessions.

Assessment
Students will submit a report and take a supervised written exam. The two parts will be assessed separately and will lead to a combined grade, where the report counts for 75% and the written exam for 25%. Both parts of the exam must be assessed with a pass grade in order for a student to pass the course.
The report must be submitted individually or in groups of up to three students, and can be up to 10 pages long. Students will choose a practical work-oriented issue themselves within the framework of the thematic content of the course. A joint grade will be awarded for reports submitted in groups. If a participant is ill, the group can submit the report at a resit/rescheduled exam, or the report can be submitted individually.
The written exam lasts two hours.

Permitted exam materials and equipment
Unannotated laws, regulations and collective wage agreements.

Grading scale
A grade scale with grades from A to E for pass and F for fail is used.

Examiners
An internal and an external examiner will grade the exam papers.;
A selection of at least 25% of the exam papers will be assessed by two examiners. The grades awarded to exam papers assessed by the external and internal examiner will be used to determine the level of all exam papers.
