Knowledge

The student has

  • obtained an integrated understanding of fundamental drivers of value, and valuation techniques
  • implemented and understood the use of this knowledge in practical settings

Skills

The student is

  • able to apply the main valuation techniques to real companies, to form an informed opinion as to the fair value of a company
  • able to take complex financial information and distill them into relevant information for the valuation process
  • able to present the findings of their analysis verbally and in written and presentation of the fair value of a corporation or project towards their peers

General competence

The student

  • has completed demanding case work and presentations as constructive members of a student group
  • can resolve discrepancies and argue why they are good solutions to the problem

  • a theoretical understanding of quantitative methods for analyzing data
  • an understanding of the role of empirical evidence in evaluating economic, managerial, and business problems

  • formulate empirical questions
  • gather, obtain, and organize quantitative data
  • conduct statistical analysis using software
  • interpret statistical results

General competence

The student can

  • think critically and understand the role of assumptions in arguments
  • communicate effectively about economic, managerial, and business issues
  • develop a well-organized argument that states assumptions and hypothesis, which are supported by evidence
  • use and appropriately cite different data sources

Course requirements

For å kunne framstille seg til eksamen må studenten ha følgende godkjente obligatoriske aktiviteter og arbeidskrav:

  • Arbeidskrav 1: Deltagelse i tre seminarer med gruppepresentasjon og diskusjon av oppgitt case
  • Arbeidskrav 2: Individuell skriftlig oppgave med et omfang på inntil 1200 ord +/- 20 %
  • Arbeidskrav 3: Skriftlig gruppeoppgave med et omfang på inntil 1800 ord +/- 20 %. Studentene blir inndelt i grupper på cirka 7 studenter per gruppe.

Seminarene og arbeidskravene må være gjennomført og godkjent innen fastlagt frist for at studenten skal kunne framstille seg til eksamen.

Ved fravær på seminar kan det søkes emneansvarlig om å gjøre en erstatningsoppgave. Dersom de skriftlige oppgavene ikke blir godkjent, gis det anledning til å kunne levere en forbedret versjon én gang innen angitt frist.

Assessment

The exam in the course is a supervised exam of 4 hours.

Permitted exam materials and equipment

The following aids are permitted:

  • Calculator (see regulations for the use of calculators in the programme description)
  • One dictionary (Native language-English/English-Native language or English-English)
  • One sheet of notes (A4-size, single-sided)

Grading scale

Gradert skala A - F

Examiners

The exam papers are assessed by one internal and one external examiner.

At least 25 % of the exam papers will be assessed by two examiners. The grades awarded for the papers assessed by two examiners form the basis for determining the level for all the exam papers.
