Specific academic recognition

Specific academic recognition

In order to be granted academic equivalence, the foreign education/degree must cover the corresponding Norwegian education/degree in main contents, extent, and level. This is called specific academic recognition ("faglig godkjenning"). A specific recognition gives the right to use the title established for the education/degree to which equivalence is granted.

OsloMet may also recognise a foreign education as academically equivalent to a specific part of a degree or study programme provided by OsloMet. If you apply for admission and are admitted to this programme, you may obtain your degree with fewer examinations and – in certain cases – in a shorter time than the nominal length of study.

In order to assess foreign education in relation to specific recognition or exemption from examinations or tests at OsloMet, we need extensive documentation (please see the documentation requirements). However, if you cannot provide the necessary documentation, but still have your degree certificate/diploma and transcript of academic records, you may apply to HK-dir for a general recognition of your education.
