Together for a better student environment at Kjeller

At campus Kjeller, campus hosts Hedda, Inga and Marte work to improve the student environment. At the same time, Lillestrøm municipality is developing a student strategy to make Lillestrøm even more student-friendly.

– The goal is a more inclusive study environment on campus, says campus host Hedda Wølner Kristiansen.

She wants to help fellow students and future students at Kjeller to have a better student life.

– We want the Kjeller campus to be a place where students enjoy being. Not only because they have compulsory lectures, but also because they know that something is happening here.

Through the autumn semester, the campus hosts have organized several social events, including quiz and pizza nights, and a Halloween party.

– In the spring, we envision some larger events, including a roof party on the rooftop terrace, explains Hedda.

Meet our campus hosts

Campus hosts Hedda and Marte are both second-year nursing students at campus Kjeller. The last campus host, Inga, recently completed a bachelor's degree in social education at Kjeller.

Do you want to talk to one of the campus hosts? The campus hosts are available at the student service office (between Ølkjeller’n and Akademika) every Wednesday between 10-13.

– We're always eager to hear from students about what they would like more of. It's hard for just three of us to know what 3000 students want, Hedda explains.

Wenche Larsen, coordinator for the student environment at Kjeller, has established a feedback-booth. Here, students can provide input on what they feel is lacking on campus or suggest activities they desire.

– We're eager to understand what our students need to improve their campus experience. All suggestions are welcome, emphasizes Wenche Larsen.

New student strategy in Lillestrøm municipality

The project manager for the university program in Lillestrøm municipality, Annhild Mosdøl, will collaborate with five student assistants on a student strategy in Lillestrøm municipality during the spring.

– The student strategy outlines our vision and plan for making Lillestrøm an even more vibrant place for students. We want students to actively contribute to shaping this plan.

The student assistants will help plan and arrange activities and workshops. Here, students can contribute to the student strategy.

– We want to make the municipal venues more accessible to students. However, to do so effectively, we rely on hearing from students about their preferences and preferred locations, the project manager explains.

SiO expands in Lillestrøm

A year and a half ago, the Student Welfare Organization SiO built 311 new apartments in Lillestrøm. Now they have bought a plot right in the city center.
-    That's very good news. Especially considering that OsloMet is moving into the city center, says Mosdøl.

Furthermore, Annhild Mosdøl explains that SiO has several fitness centers in Oslo, but currently none in Lillestrøm.

- This is something we know we want in Lillestrøm as well.
