Ten tips before the exam

Here are ten quick tips on how you can use the time before the exam as effectively as possible.

1. Make a thorough timetable

It is a good idea to make a timetable for the time leading up to the exam. Then you can plan which days you will read and which days you will have off. Here you can enter everything from training sessions to which chapters you will read that day.

2. Be rested and eat enough food

Make sure you are always relaxed, then you will read better. It is also important to eat enough food, then you get the most out of the day.

3. Don't read and relax in the same place

Read somewhere you concentrate. Reading will not be as effective if you read in a place you associate with relaxing. Sit at a proper table and have full focus.

4. Create a syllabus overview

Make a good overview of the syllabus. It is easier to remember the syllabus if you put it in context. For example, you can find associations with what you are going to learn, then it is easier to remember.

5. Find the right study technique

There are many different study techniques, but not all of them work for everyone. Find the one that suits you. It could be, for example, flash cards, mind maps or quizzes.

6. Practice old exam papers

There are many old exam papers online. Practice these to be prepared for the kinds of tasks you may be given. Ask your lecturers if they have access to any previous exams.

7. Remember to take breaks

It is important to take breaks to keep your concentration up! Some people need more frequent breaks, while others need few but longer ones. Find out what is right for you. During the break you can, for example, exercise, get fresh air, be with friends or cook good food.

8. Turn off notifications on social media

Turn off social media notifications when reading. You can do that in the settings on your phone and keep your concentration.

9. Read with friends

It is recommended to read with study friends, but remember to read with someone with whom you can concentrate. You both remember and learn more from discussing the syllabus with others.

10. Wait a few days to read the same thing again

When the reading session is finished, it may be a good idea to wait a few days to read exactly the same thing again. The most effective learning is when you have forgotten some of what you have read, but not all.

Good luck, you can do this!
