Make sure you're prepared if something happens – and become an emergency friend!
Everyone is encouraged to have a self-preparedness supply. But if you're a student without your own house, here are some simple and practical tips.
The Norwegian Directorate for Civil Protection (DSB) recommends that everyone maintain a self-preparedness supply.
How to get started with self-preparedness
-
Become an emergency friend. Talk with fellow students, friends, and family about how you can work together to be better prepared if the power or drinking water disappears.
-
Learn a practical skill that makes you more prepared. Look for free first aid courses and sign up.
-
Build your self-preparedness gradually. An extra pack of crispbread or oats doesn’t cost much, but it’s handy to have if you can’t get to the store.
-
A little prepared is better than not prepared. Don’t have space for the full 20 liters of drinking water recommended by authorities? Then a couple of 1.5-liter bottles in the cupboard is better than none.
-
Check with your roommates or student housing to see if parts of the self-preparedness supply can be shared—like drinking water.
