Shorter waiting time at SiO Mental Health
Due to increased demand, SiO has changed the intake system for mental health services, resulting in shorter waiting times.
"Most students receive a response to their inquiry within a day", says Anne Karin Mullally, Clinic Manager at SiO Mental Health.
This fall, the clinic has changed its intake system to reduce the waiting lists. The goal is to provide faster help to the students who need it most.
How to apply
All students who want mental health assistance must submit a form to helsenorge.no. You can access the form through SiO's website. A multidisciplinary team at SiO reviews your inquiry and assesses which service your should receive.
Among the treatment options offered by SiO are individual counseling, group therapy, and courses (sio.no). The services are free, but you must pay the semester fee first.
Good alternatives to therapy
So far, the feedback has been positive. SiO also sees a great interest in the self-help material available on their website.
Some may be disappointed when they are recommended something other than individual counseling with a psychologist. Mullally believes that courses of good quality can be just as effective. This way, you also see that you are not alone in your challenges, which can be beneficial for many.
"Many challenges in life do not necessarily need to be treated with therapy", says Mullally.
