Recording lectures

Students who wish to make their own recordings of teaching sessions should obtain the lecturer’s consent, unless the student has been granted permission to record as part of an official accommodation. Recordings may only be used for personal purposes.

If any individual can be identified through either audio or video, this constitutes personal data. This entails certain rights under the Personal Data Act. Consequently, if the recording is to be shared — even if only with fellow students — consent must be obtained.

Any prohibition against recording must be justified in each specific case. Strong grounds for prohibiting recordings include situations where recording could hinder dialogue or active participation in the teaching session.
