About the study place

Universidad de los Andes is located in Bogotá, the capital of Colombia, with its campus centrally situated at the foothills of the Andes Mountains.

Bogotá is Colombia’s largest and most important city politically, economically and culturally. The city is located at more than 2,600 metres above sea level, which makes the climate cooler than in many other parts of Colombia. The altitude can be noticeable, and some students may need time to acclimatise. For students, Bogotá offers a rich urban and cultural life with museums, concerts, theatres, cafés and an active student community. At the same time, the metropolis can feel busy, with heavy traffic, significant social inequalities and varying air quality. According to travel advice from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (regjeringen.no), most travel in Colombia takes place without problems, but visitors are advised to familiarise themselves with current travel recommendations and remain cautious. Bogotá also serves as a good base for travelling to other parts of the country, such as the coffee region, Cartagena and national parks.

Universidad de los Andes was founded in 1948 and is considered Colombia’s leading private university. The university is known for its high academic quality and strong research activity, and places emphasis on internationalisation, interdisciplinarity and social engagement. It has a large and diverse student population and modern facilities.
