About the study place

West Virginia University (WVU) is located in the city of Morgantown in the state of West Virginia, in the northeastern United States.

Morgantown is a mid‑sized university town with approximately 30,000 residents, where the university strongly shapes both the cityscape and everyday life. The city is situated in the Appalachian Mountains, a region characterised by forested hills, rivers and natural areas that offer excellent opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking, kayaking and cycling. West Virginia has lower living costs than many other parts of the United States. At the same time, public transportation can be limited, and cars are commonly used. As elsewhere in the United States, it is important to have comprehensive health insurance, as hospital care is expensive when paying out of pocket.

WVU is a large public research university founded in 1867. The university offers a wide range of academic programmes and is particularly strong in engineering, health sciences, social sciences, education, technology and environmental‑related fields. Here, you can experience life in a true university town, enjoy beautiful natural surroundings, and have New York City within a six‑hour drive.
