About the study place

Hawai‘i Pacific University (HPU) is located in Honolulu on the island of O‘ahu, in the state of Hawai‘i, USA. The university has several campuses, including a Downtown Campus in the city centre and a campus in the Waikiki area.

Honolulu is Hawai‘i’s largest city and a cultural and economic hub in the Pacific region. The city is known for its beaches, mountains, and strong connection to the ocean and outdoor activities. Students can enjoy a unique combination of city life and nature, with opportunities for surfing, snorkelling, hiking and beach activities available year‑round. At the same time, Hawai‘i is geographically isolated, and the cost of living is high, particularly for housing, food and transport. According to travel advice from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (regjeringen.no), the United States is generally considered a safe country to stay in, but having comprehensive private health insurance is essential.

HPU is a private university founded in 1965, with a large proportion of international students. The university is known for small class sizes and close academic support. HPU offers programmes in fields such as business, international relations, social sciences, psychology, communication, IT, environmental and natural sciences, and health sciences. Student life is closely integrated with the city, and much of daily life takes place outside a traditional, unified campus structure.
