About the study place

The University of California, San Diego (UCSD) is located in the beautiful coastal community of La Jolla, which is known for its beaches, parks, and mild Mediterranean climate.

La Jolla is situated in Southern California and is part of the greater San Diego metropolitan area. The area offers a wide range of cultural and recreational opportunities, including surfing, diving, and hiking in the many nearby nature reserves. There is also easy access to exciting destinations such as Los Angeles and Mexico. While the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ travel information warns of high crime rates in certain neighborhoods of San Diego, La Jolla is generally considered a safe area.

UCSD is one of the leading research universities in the United States and is particularly well known for its strong programs in biology, engineering, economics, and computer science. The university is recognized for its innovative approach to education and research and offers a wide range of attractive study programs that may be relevant for students from OsloMet. UCSD’s location by the Pacific Ocean provides unique opportunities for marine research, and the university also has a strong focus on community engagement and sustainability.

For students, UCSD is attractive both because of the high quality of education and its vibrant student life, with more than 600 student organizations and numerous cultural and sporting events.
