About the study place

Universidad de Monterrey (UDEM) is located in the city of Monterrey in the state of Nuevo León, in northern Mexico.

Monterrey is Mexico’s second‑largest metropolitan area, with around 5 million inhabitants, and is considered one of the country’s most important economic and industrial centres. The city has a modern character, with an active urban and cultural scene, restaurants, concerts and a strong international presence. Monterrey is surrounded by mountains, including the Sierra Madre Oriental, making it easy to go hiking, climbing and on nature excursions just outside the city. The climate is warm for most of the year. According to travel advice from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, visitors to Mexico are advised to exercise caution and follow local recommendations regarding safety and transport (regjeringen.no). Monterrey is among the safer major cities in Mexico and is considered significantly safer than several neighbouring states, particularly in terms of everyday crime.

UDEM was founded in 1969 and is a private university with a strong emphasis on academic quality, values‑based education and social responsibility. The university is particularly well known for academic programmes in business and economics, engineering, architecture, design, social sciences, education and health sciences. UDEM offers modern facilities, a large and green campus, libraries, student housing, sports facilities and many social meeting places. The student environment is international, and courses are taught mainly in Spanish, with some courses also offered in English.
