About the study place
Mahidol University is located in Thailand, with its main campus in Salaya, west of Bangkok.
Bangkok is the capital of Thailand and one of the largest and most dynamic cities in Southeast Asia, with a population of more than 10 million. The city offers a rich urban and cultural life, with temples, markets, museums and restaurants. Bangkok has affordable public transport, good travel connections within the region, and easy access to Thailand’s coastline, islands and mountain areas. The climate is tropical, with high temperatures and humidity throughout the year, and a rainy season during parts of the year. According to travel advice from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (regjeringen.no), Thailand is generally considered a safe travel destination. Visitors should nevertheless follow local advice, particularly in large urban areas.
Mahidol University was founded in 1888 and is one of Thailand’s oldest and most prestigious universities. The university is particularly well known for strong academic environments in medicine, health and life sciences, public health, natural sciences, technology, social sciences and education. The Salaya campus is spacious and green, with libraries, laboratories, student housing, sports facilities and social meeting places.
