Course history

Introduction

The integration of theoretical, empirical and methodological knowledge and the students' own professional expertise are central to this course. The course comprises three parts:

  • The project-oriented clinical training will focus on the organisation of mental health services from a patient recovery perspective
  • The clinical training where the students work on their own interpersonal competence
  • The in-depth paper shall delve into issues relating to the clinical training and/or other phenomena regarding the field of mental health care.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the student is expected to have achieved the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and competence:

 

Knowledge

The student

  • has in-depth knowledge of interpersonal relationships and care theories
  • is capable of applying knowledge about the premises for and significance of interpersonal relationships and care in mental health care
  • has in-depth knowledge about recovery and recovery processes and what constitutes good mental health care work from the perspective of patients/users
  • has in-depth knowledge about adaptation and organisation that promote recovery processes and user perspectives
  • has in-depth knowledge of a chosen specialisation area in mental health and mental disorders.
  • is able to analyse academic issues based on relevant knowledge of the discipline

 

Skills

The student is capable of

  • reflecting on, analysing and identifying academic and ethical issues related to relationships
  • establishing, developing and ending relationships with people suffering from mental disorders and their next of kin
  • providing care to and accepting people with mental disorders and their next of kin based on their resources, wishes and needs
  • making professional evaluations and applying various work methods to mental health care in an independent manner, in collaboration with patients/users, their next of kin/network and colleagues
  • reflecting on their own personal and professional competence development
  • analysing their own and other people's contributions in an interdisciplinary team
  • reflecting on one's own contribution in relationships with people suffering from mental disorders

 

Competence

The student is capable of

  • communicating relational challenges relating to factors that can promote or inhibit the organisation of health care services in a recovery and user perspective
  • innovative thinking and applying their knowledge to new areas
  • analysing academic, professional and research ethics issues

Teaching and learning methods

Lectures, seminars and self-study.

 

In addition to applying the syllabus from the other courses, the student must document at least 1000 pages of self-chosen literature.

Course requirements

The following assignment (in-depth paper) must have been completed and approved in order for a student to pass the clinical training and be permitted to take the exam:

Project-oriented clinical training

  • Complete a group project with a presentation

 

Attendance during professional training

  • 240 hours in total

  • The student must attend at least 90 % of the scheduled time

 

Individual assignment

  • Scope: 1,500 words (+/– 20%)

 

Individual assignment or group assignment

  • Scope: 1,500 words (+/– 20%)

 

Plan for in-depth paper

  • Topic, research question and choice of methodology for the in-depth paper

 

Assessment

The exam is in two parts:

Clinical training

    • the assessment is based on the learning outcomes for the course, the student's specification of the learning outcomes and the assessment made of the student during the clinical training period

 

In-depth paper

    • individual or in groups of two students over a period of three weeks

    • Scope: 5,000 words (+/- 20%) for both individual assignments and group assignments

    • A student who fails the ordinary exam, may nevertheless submit a reworked version as a resit

Permitted exam materials and equipment

All aids are permitted, as long as the rules for source referencing are complied with.

Grading scale

Clinical training - Pass/fail

In-depth paper - Pass/fail

The student must have obtained a pass on both parts in order to pass the course as a whole and earn the credits.

Examiners

Clinical training - professional supervisor and supervisor from the university

In-depth paper - All answer papers are assessed by two examiners. At least 20% per cent of the exam papers will be assessed by an external examiner. The external examiner's assessment shall benefit all the students.
